S: Our Honeymoon
Getting There: After a long night of packing, we had to wake up at 3:15 am to leave the house at 4:00. We stopped at McDonalds and then headed to Fast Park. Our flight to Miami left at 7:10. We ate lunch at the Corona Grill at MIA and boarded the plane at noon. We sat on the plane for 1 hour before taking off because the coffee maker was leaking water!
We landed in Punta Cana at about 3:00 Tuesday afternoon. The airport was an open-air building and was nothing like the airports at home! We each had to buy a green "tourist card" for $10, then we walked about 20 feet to the next person and gave them the card. There were people dancing and playing music in the airport, Angie took a picture and then one guy kicked a tip basket at her! We met with the rep from Hotel Beds and he got us on a vehicle headed straight to the resort. It took about an hour and the driving was scary--but we made it!
We checked in and headed to our Junior Swim-up Suite. We were greeted by a banner on the door that said "Excellence Honeymooners." We also had a fruit bowl and a bottle of champagne waiting for us!
Our first (and best) dinner of the Honeymoon was at Chez Isabelle. Jeremy tried pate for the first time and wasn't a huge fan. | After dinner, we played yard chess (the pieces were about 2 ft. tall).
Wednesday we woke up well rested and ready for fun! We booked our excursions/dinners/etc. and headed to the beach. There was a red flag on the beach (all week), so we couldn't get in very far. We had lunch on the beach and then hung out at the pool for a while. That afternoon, we had an 80 minute couples massage on the beach!
We had dinner at Barcelona, the food was just OK. After dinner, we headed to the sports bar and played pool, ping pong, and Fooseball. The show that night was the Micheal Jackson Experience. We watched a little of it before heading back the room and ordering room service. | Thursday morning we woke to the sounds of hammers at 7 am! September is the off season in Punta Cana and they do a lot of renovations. Angie talked to the concierge and got our room changed and a free romantic dinner for the inconvenience. We liked the location of the new room much better.
We left the resort at 2:00 to go Ziplining! | It took a little over an hour and 2 buses to get there! | It started raining on the way there. | And the ride ended with 15 minutes of bumpy, narrow road up a mountain!
It rained... | And poured!!! | But Jeremy LOVED it...Angie did not!
We had dinner at Spice, the Asian restaurant. The food was good and we met a couple from the Cincinnati area. | After dinner we watched the Circus, went back to the room, and ordered more room service.
Friday afternoon, we went on an excursion that combined several activities. First we drove (well, Jeremy drove) a mini speedboat in the ocean. Then, we went snuba diving. We got to see a lot of fish and touch some strange sea creatures too. Last, we spent some time snorkeling.
Romantic Dinner @ Toscana | Angie was serenaded!!!
That night was the Men vs Women Show. Guests competed and it was very entertaining. At one point, the contestants had to get specific items from the audience--Jeremy was quick to give up his shoe, shirt, and pants and even tried to get Angie's bra off! The women won, but it may have been fixed! Everyone got prizes and one of the guys gave Jeremy his prize--a bottle of Rum!
Saturday morning we went horseback riding. On the way to the horses, we passed a strip mall that made us laugh! | Angie loved horseback riding so we made an appointment to go on a longer ride later in the week...but later we decided to cancel.
That night we had another romantic dinner at the Grill. | Frank was our server and brought us all of the desserts! He was Angie's favorite!!!
Sunday morning we left early for the Dolphin Explorer Cruiser. It was another long ride, and more waiting once we got to the park. Once everyone got there, we started by seeing the tigers and parrots. Then we went to the marina and got to encounter a sea lion, sting ray, and fruit shark. Then we boarded a boat and had some refreshments. We went snorkeling an loved it! Afterwards, we went to a "natural pool" where everyone partied and danced in the water. Angie tried Mamajuana mixed with passion fruit juice.
We decided to go for a stroll around the resort before dinner. Jeremy let a parrot climb on his hand--then the parrot climbed up his arm, across his back to the opposite shoulder where it ate one of the buttons off his shirt!
We had dinner at the Lobster house where watched the sunset as we listened to the waves, it was beautiful! | We went to see Frank at Toscana for Cannolis, they even put rose petals on the table for us...and brought an extra chocolate dessert!
Monday morning we had breakfast in bed, then hung out at the cascade pool. We went to the ocean for a bit and Jeremy lost his sunglasses in a huge wave. We had lunch on the beach, then headed back to the pool.
It poured rain that afternoon and evening, apparently this was Tropical Storm Maria! We lost power for a few minutes but didn't have any other problems
We had dinner at Agave that night. The food was ok, but the margarita was not--it was like pure tequila! We headed to the theater after dinner to wait for the Ideal Couple show. Angie had her favorite drink--the Sammy Sosa!
We were 1 of 4 couples to compete in the Ideal Couple game!! | The first challenge was to pass a ping-pong ball up one leg of the man's pants and down the other, and then back to the first again--good thing Jeremy doesn't wear skinny jeans!
The next challenge was "Is this your lady." Jeremy was blindfolded and had his hands behind his back and as the ladies sat on his lap, he had to decide if it was Angie or not. They tried to trick him by pulling people from the audience--they even had a man sit on his lap! When they asked Jeremy, "Is this your lady" he said, "This is a Guy!" When it was finally Angie's turn, he guessed it right away!
Next, there was a Dirty Dancing challenge. We were both nervous because we are not dancers, but we improvised and it was hilarious! Last, there was the Positions Game. We had to run to one another and pop balloons in different precarious positions.
The audience picked the winners and we won!!! Our prize was a free romantic dinner on the beach--to bad we had to leave the next morning! Jeremy traded in the romantic dinner for a bottle of his favorite Dominican rum.
Tuesday morning it was time to head home. It was a LONG trip home. We had to be at the airport in Punta Cana 3 hours before our flight. The plane we rode in to Puerto Rico was very small, had propellers, and vibrated the whole trip--good thing it was only 45 minutes. We went through customs and ate at a bar and grill in the Puerto Rico airport and then boarded our plane to JFK. Once we got to JFK, we literally walked off one plane and onto another for our connecting flight to CVG. We finally made it to CVG around 10:30...but our luggage did not! It got stuck in JFK and made it home a couple days later.
