2: Cinco de mayo, or "the fifth of may", is an important celebration within the Mexican and Latino culture. It is a tradition symbolizing strong Mexican nationalism, defining identity, and cultural education. | pg 1 (UNO)

4: battle of Puebla | Many people believe that Cinco de mayo is a celebration of Mexico's independence; however, this is not correct. Cinco de mayo is actually a celebration honoring the defeat of the French army in the "battle of Puebla". | pg 3 (tres)

5: pg 4 (cuatro) | This battle took place on may 5th, 1862 in the city of Puebla, Mexico. The French troops had been sent over by their emperor, Napoleon III, to take of the Spanish colony. | Puebla, Mexico | emperor Napoleon III

6: The problem was that the French army was bigger and better equipped than the Mexican army. | pg 5 (cinco)
