This year we went to music college! The Noonans told us about it, it looked really cool so Stephanie, Grace and I signed up. I kind of got cold feet the week before. I wasn't sure it was really going to be worth my time and money. It was worth that and more! I love music but I never really thought about I never thought about God loving music? I knew there was music in heaven but did you know that God himself sings? Zeph 3:17 Can you imagine what that would be like? You should study music in the Bible. There are over 500 referances. You might get the idea that God thought music was important. I just started and it is really facinating. The bible tells us why to sing, what to sing and where to sing. its pretty incredible!
So the first thing I did was to fix my car. The battery was dying every time I turned it off. I didn't actually finnish because I needed an extension to the ratchet set that didn't have. A friend of the family came over and helped out in trade for a cobler.
Sunday The Noonans came over so we could practice for the recital and because Bethany was staying at our house that night. We wanted to get an early start the next morning so we went to bed right at 12:30. I was half asleep while I was driving the next day. We met the Barrets and Bonnie over a nice breakfast. Steve Pettit taught on Philipians 3:14. I kicked myself for not having something for taking notes! After that Bethany and I went to the car and unloaded a bunch of our books into the car because we didn't think we would need them, of course we found out later that we did!
The Whitcombs really know their music. I learned so much from both of them. | I went to Rachelle's improvising class, I didn't know that improvisation had such a simple theory behind it. It made it so much easier than trying to figure out what sounds good by ear! | One of the highlights for me was playing music with a lot of other instruments. That was one of my original reason for going.
The first time I went to listen to an orchestra I was struck by the beauty of it, they play like they are one living thing. Ever since I have wanted to play in an orchestra myself. I had my chance at music collage. Most of us had never seen eachother before we just heard about the orchestra and showed up. I was supprised at how many of us there were, 35 violins showed up! The piece wasn't that difficult but it was kind of scary because we only rehearsed for an hour before we performed the next night!
I loved all the teachers at music collage! I came home with so many ideas I didn't know which way to go. I am going to take singing lessons for sure. I love singing but I didn't know how much I could get from my voice with a little more effort and someone to point me in the right direction.
I felt like everyone there had a passion for music and loved the LORD. They were very much interested in passing that on to everyone who was there. They also made everything so simple. Everyone kept comming out of the classes saying "they made that look so easy" and "I can't believe I didn't understand that before".
This was the first time I ever sang with a choir. I loved it, it is alot like the orchestra except it is all voices. It gives the same feeling of one living thing and when we are all singing praises to our creator it is beautiful! I don't think we sounded professional or anything but I was impressed with how far Mr. Cook and Mr. Gilliam took us in two days. It took a lot of patience from both of them.
One of the things I liked about music college was all the music | There was music every where. Good music too
Not just in the classes but walking down the halls you heard people playing music | I wish I could live in that enviroment but I took a lot home to apply to my life.
