S: Lauren's 7th Birthday - New York City, August 2010
1: It all started August 6, 2010 when Granny, Mom, and I headed to New York City on an 8:00am flight. Although we ran into the airport and thought we'd miss our flight, we made it with time to spare. We sat in seats 5A, 5B, and 5C on US Air 1050 heading to LGA airport. We arrived in New York at 10:40am, grabbed a taxi and headed for our home away from home, "Marriott Marquise." When we checked in I received a present from the hotel, it was an American Girl Doll flip out chair and I was so excited! We stayed in room 1857 for the weekend. Once we unpacked and I picked which bed I was sleeping in, we headed out to find the American Girl Doll store. On our way, we stopped at a little deli and I ate fruit and noodles. We then walked to Rockefeller Center. Granny told me all about when it's cold people ice skate there and how there is a large Christmas tree after Thanksgiving. We went in the Lego store and played for a few minutes. Afterwards we went straight to the American Girl Place. I knew which doll I wanted from the beginning. I had my doll's ears pierced at the beauty salon. Next was a photo session with my doll and our picture was placed on the front of the American Girl magazine. We even bought Cameron a Bitty Twin and an outfit. After 3 hours of shopping, we headed back to the hotel. Granny and mom rested while I played with my new doll "Gabbey". Before dinner we went to Toys R Us to see the large ferris wheel. We walked 20 short blocks and 4 long avenues to Chelsea to meet my mom's friend, Cheryl. We ate meatball pizza, magherita pizza, and a few other types at Co. We ended the night with cupcakes at Billy's.
2: Saturday morning we woke and headed out for another full day. We started with breakfast in the middle of Times Square from Starbucks. We took the Subway train A C E uptown to Columbus Circle. The first stop was the Coach store. Mom and Granny bought sunglasses and a mini purse for me.. We walked by the Plaza Hotel and went to FAO Schwartz & Co. This is a great toy store! There were large stuffed animals everywhere. There was even a large piano that they said I could walk on, but it was closed for a birthday party. I watched a Barbie run-way show for a bit before leaving the store. Next stop was a carriage ride through Central Park. I picked out a brown horse and green carriage. The horse's name was Pickles, he was really sweet. Our ride took about 30 minutes and I saw a man playing the saxophone, a small carnival with rides, lots of people in the park and the beautiful lake. At the end of the ride, mom gave Pickles a carrot. We grabbed another taxi and headed to Little Italy for lunch. There was a summer family event going on in the streets of Little Italy. Lots of people and fun events. I saw a man on stilts, a balloon artist and a face painting artist. After lunch at Pellegrino's, I had my face painted and went for dessert at Ferrara's. I was really tired by this time but I wanted to see the Statue of Liberty. We grabbed another taxi and headed to Battery Park. More walking at Battery Park but it was really cool to see all the tall buildings and boats in the water. We took the ferrry from dock 3 for an hour cruise.,
3: where we got really close to the Statue of Liberty. I was surprised to see how big she is! Afterward, we headed back to the hotel to get ready for my first broadway show, Mary Poppins. The show started at 8:00pm and we had 2nd row seats. I really enjoyed watching the show, Mary Poppins flew right over us. We ended our night at midnight with another chocolate cupcake, this time from Juniors. Sunday morning we had brunch at 9:30am at the American Girl Place. They even sang "Happy Birthday" to me. Then it was time to head back to the airport for the 12:59pm flight and arrived back in Charlotte at 3:40pm. It was such a great trip, I went to bed Sunday night with one question for my mom, if I couldn't live in NY, then when could I go back! Thank you so much Granny for a memorable trip and a wonderful 7th birthday! I love you!!
