Grammy in her element. | Isaac, Esther, Klara
Snorkeling, swimming, digging, playing! | Brenneke's Beach
Shaved ice to share!!?! We also spotted whales playing off shore, beached seals and a sea turtle. | Esther & Klara in matching pixie suits! | Yucky salt water!!
The Baughman's were excellent coconut & fruit hunter gatherers. One night they shared strange fruit pupus. | A Bunch 'o Nuts & Beach Buddies
Victoria | Victoria, Jonathan, Kellen, Klara, & Kaeleigh loved to dig big holes!! | Kellen & Kaeleigh
We enjoyed our homey rooms but weren't there long any day! Every 3rd night we got to host dinner for the Fam ~ all 18 of us! | Our Joint
Brian & Grammy sang duets to Brian's ukelele while the rest of us took Grampy on in Rummicube. Most evenings we had dinners together and then tried to play Bananagrams or Rummicube over hot fudge sundaes.
We headed south to see spouting horn & then snorkel at Lawaii. The surf was pretty high so there were currents pulling | Lawaii Beach
Brian was able to catch some waves at Brenneke's beach. He even got tubed a couple times!! Course he had to share the waves with lots of locals, tourists, & sea turtles.
 Beautiful Flowers
The yellow hibiscus is the state flower of Hawaii. We saw tons of beautiful flowers (many of which Klara picked & Kaeleigh & Kellen photographed).
Beach Time! | Beach right outside Pono Kai | photo by KDH
The weather was gorgeous but windy coupled with pretty high surf. We spent a little time on the beach right behind our "joint." Most of the time we would drive down to Poipu for the sun & lower surf. On this day, the weather was lovely at Kapa'a. The girls immediately began their usual task of digging holes and building teepees. Kellen & Papa tried to be monkeys in the trees. The Houchins & Baughmans trecked to Kipu falls where B took the plunge!
The whole Fam went to the lighthouse where the kids were excited to sight the Hawaiian state bird, the Nene. Then we headed to nearby Anini Beach. Gretchen, Rebekah & Sophia snorkeled & spotted an eel & green sea turtle! | Kilauea Lighthouse | The new light shines while the old lighthouse, n the background, is being refurbished.
Coconut Grove Hula Show | We had our own luau on the grass with a yummy plate lunch meal while we watched the hula show. | Kellen decided to "opt out" of the hula photo shoot since it's "for girls."
The kids were enamored with the dancing & liked to video it as well.
Kellen has decided to live in Hawaii & become a photographer. Sounds great~ as long as we can visit!
Snapshots from Kellen & Kaeleigh of our "joint" at Pono Kai. The place was gorgeous, right on the beach, with a nice pool & hot tub that the kids loved!
The Fish Pond at Pono Kai was a fun attraction for the kids. For $.25 they could get a cupful of fish food to feed to the starving fish. The pool was swarming with black tilapia & a few well fed koi. | David in his handsome Hawai'ian dude outfit buying fish "candy". | The Fish Pond
If you had patience & good aim, you could get a pellet right into the mouth of a large koi. (Kaeleigh, Kellen, David, & Isaac, below)
 Kilohana Plantation
 Train Ride, | Hike, | Lunch, &.....
Orchard Tour! | Grammy & Grampy arranged our own family tour. It started with a ride on a passenger car powered by a diesel engine. Then we stopped to feed the wild boars & ubiquitous chicken. Next we had a short guided hike into the forest (inhabited by voracious
mosquitoes). "Uncle" Kai led the kids while Branden guided the adults. Lunch awaited us after the hike. Then, back on the train to the orchard. where we sampled some of their fruit & sugar cane. Yum! Kaeleigh & Isaac tied for most bites - 15!
Nice wild boar... not so nice goat!!
The "Christmas Card" photo. (back) Jonathan, Rebekah, Isaac, Kaeleigh, Kellen, Victoria, Sophia, Klara, (front) Esther, David. Ten small bodies & only a couple photo bombs! Success!
Outtakes | You want some of this?? | Photographic evidence!
 It's a jungle out there
