S: Paris 2011

FC: Paris 2011

Paris, France June 2011 | French Hotdog

Notre Dame Cathedral | Happy & gay in Paris!

A Water taxi ride gave us a great view from the Seine

Walking in Paris | When we had already visited our destination for the day, we took a long walk with only a new neighborhood in mind.

From haunted tombs to a haunt of Ernest Hemingway, the neighborhoods of Paris were always interesting to walk through.

A climb to the top of the Arc de Triomphe gave us great views including the Champs-Elysees, Sacre Coeur, and modern downtown Paris.

HAPPY 14th BIRTHDAY ELIZABETH! Missing her parents and brothers, just a little, Elizabeth preferred to eat in for her birthday dinner, complete with 2 desserts!

Moulin Rouge | An evening walk took us to the site of a family favorite movie, and a much seedier side of Paris. We held on tight to Elizabeth!

The Palace at Versailles For this outing, Billy gave us all a history primer, thanks to the lyrics of the Allen Sherman song, "You went the wrong way old King Louie!" | The Hall of Mirrors | The palace gardens

Inside the palace was a huge courtyard | The altar in the private chapel | Entertaining ourselves on the train ride.

 E i f f e l T o w e r | Julie and I having a little fun holding the tower up on our backs!

We saw the tower almost every day (& night) as we explored Paris. | A view from Underneath

Paris is famous for sweets and chocolate. We found both in abundance - yummmm!

From macaroons, crepes and biscuits to fruits & salads, the food was always beautiful as well as tasty! Our favorite treat, eaten too quickly to snap a picture of were the glaces (ice cream cones).

 The rules!

The Palace of Luxembourg and surrounding gardens | Chopin Statue

The Luxembourg grounds were diverse. Flowers, sculptures, and fruit trees and bee hives. And, lots of green space (though the rules do not allow walking or playing on the grass)

ART MUSEUMS Starting with the biggest and best, we started early in the morning at the Louvre. Later that same day, we visited L'orangerie, a museum almost exclusively devoted to the paintings of Claude Monet. | Elizabeth tenaciously moved herself to the front of the crowd to get her own photo of the Mona Lisa.

Musee d'Orsay and the small, delightful Jacquemart Andre museums each had their own unique collections.

Even kids clothes and bathtubs had a French flair!

Window shopping in Paris, and catching a model picture shoot.

 Incredible

 Doorways

 Tony impersonating Winston Churchill

 Flowers & Gardens

Ile Saint Louis was a quaint neighborhood made for walking and shopping.

Our home for the week was at 30 Rue Jacob. Not far away was a market that kept us supplied with fresh food every day.

Location, location, location! Not only was the apartment Billy rented spacious, well equipped and nicely decorated, it was located central to everything you want to do when you visit Paris.

Fete de la Musique! On our last night in Paris, we celebrated the summer solstice the way they do all across France, with music on every corner!
