S: Pensacola Beach 2012
FC: Summer Splash | Pensacola Beach | 2012
Pensacola Beach, Florida June 8-15, 2012 | Ron & LaDell Looper Rudy, Haley, Caleb, & Nola Villines
June 8th We left Hot Springs at 6 AM and made it to Pensacola Beach at 4 PM. It was a long day in the car and we were glad to finally feel sand and surf under our toes!
Nola's first time to feel the ocean. She was nervous and a little scared, but very intrigued.
June 9-10th The first 2 days that we were in Florida, it rained a total of almost 2 feet! We passed the time watching the rain, eating shrimp, playing Uno, doing yoga, and napping. We were disappointed to have so much rain during our beach vacation, but we made the best of it!
A break in the storms sent Caleb and Pops out in the sand looking for shells. The beach patrol flew the red flags for strong currents all day Monday and Tuesday and yellow on Wednesday, so we stayed out of the water.
Crabbing! Rudy and Caleb went crabbing pretty much every night when we were in Florida. One night they caught 12! Caleb would put them in his bug box and then release them the next morning.
On Sunday night, as Haley & Rudy were about to go out for date night, Nola sat down on the stairs by Pops and started acting silly. As usual, Pops joined right in! It turned into lots of fun and a laughing fit!
Finally! The rain cleared out on Monday and left us with overcast skies and strong currents. We weren't allowed to go in the water, but the beach was all we wanted! Unfortunately, everyone got a little too much sun that day.
Tuesday was LaLa & Pops' date night. We took the kids out to dinner and for a walk on the boardwalk while they had a nice dinner out at the Grand Marlin.
On Wednesday, Rudy & Caleb went to the Naval Air Station to watch the Blue Angels practice.
Nola spent her time on the beach picking up sand and dropping it all over our chairs and legs. She didn't like the waves, but when the water calmed down on Thursday she loved playing in it.
Caleb is our animal scientist in the making. He was content to observe sandfleas, saltwater crawfish, crabs and shells for long periods of time on the beach.
A Fun Day on the Beach
She wore an itsy bitsy, teeny weeny, yellow polka dot bikini...
 LaLa & Pops
 Nola - Age 2
 Caleb - Age 6
"Our memories of the ocean will linger on, long after our footprints are gone." - Anon.
Wednesday night after we took our family pictures, we walked across the street for dinner at Peg Leg Pete's. The kids played on the playground until our table was ready. Our table ended up being right by the stage where the live music was. First, Nola started dancing with Pops. Then, Caleb joined in...
Not long after that, LaLa took Pops' place dancing with the kids. Before we knew it, we looked up and Nola was playing the tambourine. Both kids danced all night - sometimes even on stage with the band. A lady in the restaurant had a bag of dance props and they ended up with all kinds of crazy stuff on them before the night was over!
The last night at the beach means it's lobster dinner night...yum!
We packed up and left Pensacola Beach early on Friday morning. We were sad to see our time at the beach end, but we're glad to have the memory of this view to hold us over until our toes are in the sand again...
