S: Postcards: 1982 - 1999

FC: The Postcard Collection 1982 - 1999 | Electronically compiled in April 2012

How we Met - Domestic University of Michigan Labor of Love New York Institute of Technology Bronx Community College Baruch College City University of New York How we Met - International Work abroad program in London Work abroad program in France Introduced by contact in USA | I've saved post cards for many years with the intention of creating a wall collage. This never happened Fastforward to 2012: the postcards were scanned to digital format and then uploaded to an online website that has software for electronic scapbooking. Thus this creation - organized by International and Domestic. Below is a general grouping of how I met each sender.

 International

Major Contributors Carole Edrich, England - London Jean-Christophe Bove, France - Vanves Other Contributors Jean Pierre Viault, France - Paris Therese et Fabrice, France - Chantilly Nathalie Caussin - France / New York Barbara Hart, USA - New York Patricia Lin, USA - West Coast YSA Avis Pritchett, USA - Georgia Regina Tate. USA - New York

Il Duomo is in Milan, Italy. The card was mailed from Spain in 1994. At that time, I had never heard of Il Duomo. In 1997 I saw Il Duomo up close and personal while visiting Barbara who was attending a conference in Milan.

Can't figure out what Bielsa means but Pirineo Aragones refers to the Pyrenees mountain region in Spain Notice: the card has Spanish postage but appears to have been mailed from Long Island, NY.

Several of the international postcards are from Carole. We met in London in 1986 when I did a work abroad program. Fast forward to 2012, Carole and I are still in touch mainly through Facebook and e-mail. We were last face-to-face in metro Chicago in the late 90's or early 2000's.

Although not at Hotel Bel Air, I vaguely recall spending some time with Carole in Den Haag. I remember meeting a little boy who spoke French, Dutch and English as though they were all one language. I also remember the boy's father being very muscular, handsome and having multi-ethnic features.

This card was mailed to me in France at a friend's house. I think I've only stayed with Jean Pierre once and it was upon my first visit to Paris. I met him through Karen (a lady at church - Labor of Love - I think). I think I met Scott in Geneva on my way to France.

I cannot read the name on this card and the content does not nudge my memory. Judging by the address, the sender met me during my first 6 months in New York prior to long term residency in Brooklyn.

Sometimes Jean-Christophe Bove aka JCB enclosed his postcards in envelopes, so I don't know when this was sent. However, I can assume it was some time between 1988 and 1995. JCB and I met via Mike Castle. Mike and I met in college at La Maison Francaise. Mike and JCB met in Paris when Mike did a work abroad program When I finally I did a work abroad program in Paris, JCB let me stay in his apartment while he traveled inChina and Russia.

Patty was my college roommate sophomore/junior year. She and Kari were upper classmen and engineers. I was a French major. Ethnically our household was the U.N. Over the years we both lost contact with Kari, but remained in contact with each other.

 Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia

Carole was based in London and I was based in New York. In the 1980's we made international phone calls. In 2012, we Facebook and e-mail.

Avis and I met in Ann Arbor at Labor of Love around 1985. Avis was from Atlanta and was studying pharmacy. She did complete the program and I last knew her as Dr. Pritchett. We re-connected on Facebook but do not exchange regular updates

San Cristobal Hill in Santiago de Chile

 This is from my father.

This is from Paul, a colleague from Bronx Community College. Paul is from Jamaica.

I used to work at Chemical Bank. I don't remember Beth Gillman per se. Could not pick her out of a line up. I do remember my supervisor Tom James. He was a VP.

Therese lives in a French town called Chantilly. Fabrice is her significant other. I met Therese through Francoise, her sister who lives in London. Therese and I lost contact but her nephew Samir is my Facebook friend

This card reads like a romantic tryst is in the works. Actually JCB was preparing his Parisian apartment for me while he was on vacation - touring Russia and China.

I don't remember Leonard that well. We probably met at or near New York Institute of Technology. He is from a French-speaking African country. Don't remember which one. Maybe Sierra Leone.

This card is probably from JCB, since he sometimes sent cards enclosed in an envelope

I met Jean Pierre via letters. Our mutual acquaintance was Karen. I think I met Karen at Labor of Love. The first time I visited Paris, I stayed with Jean Pierre, who speaks very little English, so my French improved immensely.

Patty did an MBA program in New Zealand or Australia. Can't remember which since she sent cards from both countries.

By the address on this card, I received this in 1987 or before July 1988, which is when I moved to New York.

Not reflective of this card, JCB and I went to Barcelona at some point in the 90's. I also remember visiting Salvador Dali museum in Figueres during that same venture to Barcelona.

This card is addressed to a friend of a friend. I shared an office with Vivian Jenkins at Bronx Community College. She knew I collected post cards, so I inherited this card.

Nathalie and I met at Baruch College CUNY. Somehow I discovered she was a French native, so I started speaking to her in French and we became friends. Fast forward to 2012, we keep in touch via e-mail and I get yearly Christmas cards of her children.

I've been to Oxford. Yaaaay me! I did a work abroad program in London during 1986-87 and took a weekend getaway to Oxford.

Hameed - father Mr. and Mrs. Cole - uncle and aunt Dottie Moore - eldest sister Dwana Cole - maternal cousin Major Contributors Nathalie Caussin, Midwest Marilyn Hadley, AnnArbor Patty Lin, West Coast Other Contributors Barbara Hart Charles, New York Nigelle Hatch MAssey, East Coast Pastor and Mrs. Hawthorne, Ann Arbor Pala Pappas, Los Angeles Avis Pritchett, Decatur Lisa Wade Fruge, Lansing

My girl Barbara Ann Hart Charles loves to travel as much as I do. Barbara and I met as colleagues at Bronx Community College.

This is a card I bought in Miani while on a road trip with JCB. I think this was summer of 1992.

Dottie Moore is my eldest sister. We didn't grow up together. We met for the first time when I was living in New York and she was living in Philadelphia. I was 25 years old.

Nigelle and I met in high school. We were both on the college prep track so we had a lot of classes together. We've been friends 30 years.

David and I met freshman year at of M. We attended French 101. David changed schools before junior year. Although this card shows his address at that time, we didn't keep in touch.

When I was in college, my freshman year roommate was Jessica Hawthorne. She told me her brother was a pastor and that's how I met Pastor and Sister Hawthorne. I learned a lot at Labor of Love and will never forget the founding members.

Nathalie has cards in the international section too. We met as graduate students at Baruch College CUNY in an accounting or business class.

Pala and I met as undergraduate students at U of M. It was my junior year, her senior year. Unbeknown to each other, we were dating the same guy and he had the nerves to take me to a party hosted by her. He told her I was a dancer and she asked me to be in her senior project video. I agreed and we've been close friends ever since.

November 1987 I don't remember Roslyn Burton. Chances are we met at Wayne State University, since I was working there in November 1987.

July 31,1992: Columbia, SC I might be wrong about the year, but I know this was a road trip with JCB that started in New York, headed up to Quebec, back down to New York, I-95 south to Miami to pick up a friend Then the three of headed west. Their final destination was Los Angeles, but I bailed out in Houston.

Carole spent some time in New York City while she was traveling in the US. Chances are she bought this card somewhere and mailed it from somewhere else before she returned to London.

This might be a card I picked out during one of my trips to Myrtle Beach. My first trip was when I visited my father in Rocky Point, NC Myrtle Beach is about 70 miles away. I've been back about two more times.

Only my father would type a post card. He mentions that North Carolina may be the final retirement location. Turned out it was. He died in May 2001.

I don't remember the WHO, WHAT, WHEN, WHERE of this post card..

I vaguely recall a fellow undergraduate student named Maria Kim. I don't remember how we met..

 Christmas greetings from my father

I met Lisa Wade through Labor of Love. Lisa was always smiling and is a very positive person. I enjoyed our visit to see her family in Covert. Michigan Never heard of Covert.

Biologically Dwana is a maternal cousin. The first 4 or 5 years of my life I was raised by her mother. I love Dwana and I call her sister cousin.

I met Lyn (full name Marilyn Hadley) at the Ozone House ins Ann Arbor. We were both volunteer counselors. I was a college student and Lyn was a nurse at U of M. Lyn embraced me as a daughter and I spent a lot of time at her house during the summers I didn't return home.

This is from my "sister" Sunny. I don't remember how we met. Last remember her being in Alaska

Life is funny. This is from Seth Scruggs. I have a deceased brother-in-law who I never met named Seth and I have a cousin-in-law whose last name is Scruggs.

The other RT is Regina Tate. She lived walking distance from my apartment in Brooklyn. We met through Barbara. For some reason, Regina quit returning my phone calls and she did not accept my Facebook friend invitation Thus, we are no longer in contact.
