SAVANNAH, GEORGIA is the largest city and the county seat of Chatham County, in the U.S. state of Georgia. Established in 1733, the city of Savannah was the colonial capital of the Province of Georgia and later the first state capital of Georgia. Today Savannah is an industrial center and an important Atlantic seaport. It is Georgia's fourth largest city and third largest metropolitan area. Savannah's downtown area, which includes the Savannah Historic District, the Victorian Historic District and 22 parklike squares, is one of the largest National Historic Landmark Districts in the United States. Savannah was the host city for the sailing competitions during the 1996 Summer Olympics held in Atlanta.

Todd, Noelle, Mike, Judy, Stephen and April spent the daytime wandering around the Savannah's waterfront, squares, restaurants and cemeteries. In the evening we enjoyed a historic ghost tour and a fabulous dinner at the Pirate's House!

The Cathedral of St. John the Baptist. | SAVANNAH

THE PIRATE'S HOUSE Since 1753, The Pirate's House has been welcoming visitors to Savannah with a bounty of delicious food and drink and rousing good times. Situated a scant block from the Savannah River, The Pirate's House first opened as an inn for seafarers, and fast became a rendezvous for blood-thirsty pirates and sailors from the Seven Seas. Here seamen drank their grog and discoursed, sailor fashion, on their exotic high seas adventures from Singapore to Bombay and from London to Port Said.

 The Carnival Fascination

The Fascination is the fourth ship in Carnival Cruise Lines' eight-ship Fantasy class of mid-size cruise ships. She entered service in 1994, and based in Jacksonville, Florida, she sails to the Bahamas year-round.

FREEPORT, BAHAMAS In our first port, the Moore family caught a cab to UNEXSCO where they swam, played and kissed two dolphins. Both movie stars, "Cocoon" and "Exuma" stared in the movies Cocoon (1985) and Zeus and Roxanne (1997) respectively and spent about 90 minutes with the Moore family!

Dining in the Sensation dining room was a tasty affair! We had a great waiter, the chocolate melting cake was an evening favorite as was Joseph our "Supercharged Maitre D!"

NASSAU, BAHAMAS was formerly known as Charles Town; it was burned to the ground by the Spanish in 1684, but later rebuilt and renamed Nassau in 1695 in honor of the Dutch Stadtholder (Stadhouder, Dutch) and later also King of England, Scotland and Ireland, William III from the Dutch House of Orange-Nassau.In 1703 Spanish and French allied forces briefly occupied Nassau. By 1713, the sparsely settled Bahamas had become a pirate haven for pirate chieftains Thomas Barrow and Benjamin Hornigold. They proclaimed Nassau a pirate republic, establishing themselves as "governors", and were joined by Charles Vane, Calico Jack Rackham, and the infamous Edward Teach, known as "Blackbeard", along with women pirates such as Anne Bonny and Mary Read. In 1718, the British sought to regain control of the islands and appointed Captain Woodes Rogers as Royal governor. An American loyalist named Andrew Deveaux set forth to recapture Nassau with only 220 men and 150 muskets to face a force of 600 trained soldiers. Deveaux forced the Spanish to surrender on April 17, 1783, without a single shot fired.
