S: Cape Town, South Africa 2012

SOUTH AFRICA | SOUTH AFRICA | ARRIVED APRIL 2012 | officially the Republic of South Africa, is a country located at the southern tip of Africa. It is divided into nine provinces and has 2,798 kilometers (1,739 mi) of coastline.

Meghann and I spent another fabulous spring break traveling Africa. This time we went to South Africa. We saw the famous penguins! They live on Boulders beach. The penguins were so cute! We took a trip of the peninsula just to see them.

THE KIRSTENBOSCH GARDENS The garden is one of eight National Botanical Gardens covering five of South Africa's six different biomes. When Kirstenbosch, the most famous of the gardens, was founded in 1913 to preserve the country's unique flora, it was the first botanical garden in the world with this ethos. Furthermore, what makes the Gardens so famous worldwide is that (with minor exceptions) only indigenous plants are cultivated.

CAPE POINT the extreme southwestern tip of the continent of Africa.

OSTRICH FARM | On our trip around the peninsula, we stopped at an ostrich farm. We met this couple from England and the woman was hilarious! She talked nonstop and her husband barely said a word. They bought food to feed the ostriches and they let us feed them as well. It was kind of startling when they pecked at the food. The weirdest part was that their beaks felt kind of like plastic. Very strange birds!

BEAUTIFUL | Cape Town | VIEWS

BANTRY BAY The first day we were there, we walked to find some food. I think they get right and left confused because we walked for a LONG time before we found anything to eat! But the views of the cliffs were beautiful! The clouds over the 12 Apostles were amazing!

Hout Bay | Mini Seal Island With it's very own little Seal Island, the cute town of Hout Bay was a fun place to visit. We had fun time on the boat sneaking into the captain's chair. Then we had a great time listening to the seals who sound exactly like sheep!

 V&A Waterfront | AQUARIUM

EASTER FUN After finding a church we spent the rest of Easter Sunday at the aquarium. And of course we needed to have our picture taken with the Easter Shark!

 V&A Waterfront

The Victoria & Alfred Waterfront was one of Meghann's and my favorite places. There were boats to watch, activities to do, and oh the shops! The mall was huge! We spent MANY hours there just wandering around amazed at what you can buy there compared to Ghana. We also were excited that we could see the movie The Hunger Games!

SHARK ALLEY We went cage diving with Great White Sharks in the aptly named "Shark Alley," near the fishing village of Gansbaai, South Africa. It is probably the coolest thing I have ever done! My Shark Week dreams finally came true!

So many sharks... So little time....

 SHARKS!!!

 Cape of Good Hope

 Table Mountain

Since the end of the 17th century, Robben Island has been used for the isolation of mainly political prisoners including our guide and Nelson Mandela during the apartheid era.

 Robben Island
