S: Southern Caribbean Cruise 2009

FC: Southern Caribbean Cruise 2009 Puerto Rico St. Thomas St. John Dominica Barbados St. Lucia Antigua St. Kitts

 San Juan, Puerto Rico

Since we didn't need to board the ship until the afternoon, we spent the day wandering around San Juan. Above, Lauren, Logan, and Lexie chillin' on the wall of the ancient fortress--which has protected the capital since the 16th century.

We spent the morning trying to get our tan on. It was super hot, so Logan had no problem taking off his rash guard.

Above, getting ready to board our ship...the Carnival Victory. Lauren was initially a little camera shy. At left, lights of another cruise ship as we get ready to embark from San Juan.

 St. Thomas

Our first view of St. Thomas from our balcony. It was breath-taking to wake up docked at such a beautiful port. Lauren had fun throwing food at the seagulls outside our cabin.

Just a few shots of St. Thomas, taken from our balcony. The sail boats anchored around us enhanced the beauty of it all.

 St. John

Since we had a day on St. Thomas, we decided to take an excursion to Trunk Bay on St. John. | A short boat and bus ride took us to this peaceful, little bay. Carrie, Jana, and Allison quite enjoyed it!

Lauren and Logan had fun snorkeling around the tiny island in the background and building sand castles in the soft, white sand. It was heavenly!

The kids didn't want to get out of the water when it was time to leave, so Marilyn and Jana had to use the lifeguard's horn to get their attention. | As we left, we had the bus driver pull over so we could take a quick photo of Trunk Bay from above.

One of our many dinners on the ship. The cool thing about our table was that we could see the dolphins swimming in the wake behind us.

 Dominica

On Dominica, Lauren and Allison were lucky enough to take a shore excursion to a ropes course and zip line (Logan was unfortunately too young). | Lauren was quite gutsy from the get-go, while Allison was nervous just climbing the ladder!

At left, Lauren all decked out in her helmet, harness, and carabiners. | At right, just one of the many rope bridges suspended from the trees high above the ground.

The zip lines were much more fun (and less scary) than walking the rope bridges. | Lauren was fearless!

One of the nights we had to get all dressed up for dinner. Who wants to get all fancy after spending the day out in the sun anyway?! Not us!

 Barbados

Allison, Lauren, and Logan took a boat ride to snorkel with sea turtles. | Since it wasn't too crowded, we were able to stretch out and relax in the sun.

Below, Lauren and Logan decked out in their snorkel gear. We were actually able to see quite a few sea turtles. | Above and at right, a couple of photos of our sail boat. We also had a couple of hours to play in the sand on the beach.

The ride back to our ship was fun... | Lauren and Logan goofed around, of course!

The endless supply of soda was definitely appreciated! | At left, Lauren daydreaming about the sea.

 St. Lucia

From St. Lucia we were able to take a ride on a pirate ship. Even Grandma Edie went on this excursion! | It started raining shortly after we boarded. Trisha, Edie, and Allison got drenched!

Lauren and Logan had a lot of fun rockin' their pirate bandanas and climbing all over the ship... an actual ship used in the Pirates of the Caribbean movie.

The pirate ship took us to historic Pigeon Island. We played on the beach and then the kids went on a scavenger hunt up to the fort. | At right, a view of the bay from the fort at the top of the island.

 Antigua

On Antigua, we took an excursion to snorkel with sting rays. | Before we got in the water, we spent some time looking at a bunch of caged animals.

Logan was quite enraptured with them all... especially the lizards and birds. So enraptured, in fact, that he got his finger chomped on by the green bird at right!

Snorkeling with the sting rays was amazing! There were tons of them! | All of the sting rays were "supposedly" tame and each of us got to hold one.

Logan had no fear of the creatures, but Allison was quite terrified... | Especially after one decided to latch onto her hip! OUCH!!!

 St. Kitts

Our last port was on the island of St. Kitts. On our way to the beach we stopped off at a beautiful flower garden.

Our last day on the beach was lots of fun... we didn't want the trip to end! | At right you can see where the Pacific and Atlantic Oceans meet. The Pacific is on the left and the Atlantic on the right.

Every morning when our steward cleaned our cabin, he made various animals out of the towels. Logan started collected them all.

We were definitely sad to say goodbye to the Victory! We had lots of fun playing and relaxing in the sun! Thanks, Grandma Edie, for a really great cruise!
