FC: Spring Break 2011

Dear Shane, | What an awesome trip! I hope you will remember the great times we had -- just you and me traveling Europe! You are such a great kid and I treasure the time that we got to spend together. I am the luckiest mom in the world to have such a wonderful son! Love, Mom

Our first two days were spent in Paris. We stayed at the Park Hyatt Paris Hotel in the heart of the Opera District. | We took the Roissy Bus to the hotel...it was supposed to be easy! Our only issue was buying the tickets from the machine! | After a long flight, you were happy to relax.....

We landed at 6:00 a.m. (midnight our time), went to our hotel to change, and headed to the Louvre. | You and the Mona Lisa | Outside the Louvre...

 The Louvre was truly amazing.

After the Louvre we stopped at a cafe' for lunch. Not known for their quick service, we missed our visit to the Catacombs. Instead, we spent some time in a Parisian cemetery.

On Sunday morning we were at the Notre Dame Cathedral bright and early -- mass was even being held. It was spectacular.

 Inside the Cathedral

After touring the Cathedral, we began our climb to the top of the famous Bell Tower

The Bell Tower had several landings...high | higher....

Highest... We climbed 387 steps to reach the top of the bell tower.

After Notre Dame, we headed to the Eiffel Tower.

Shane, you were on top of photographing various signs! And, let's not forget the high quality purchase you and Evan made from the peddler -- the sand filled balloon!

After leaving the Eiffel Tower, we went directly to the Arc de Triomphe!

Surrounded by French military... they were keeping an eye on Libyan protesters

Here we are looking up Champs de Elysees

The Tomb of the Unknown Soldier

Taking in the sights on the Champs de Elysees!

Our two days in Paris were spent with another Wyoming family -- the Ammerman's. Here are some shots of you and Evan.

You enjoyed taking pictures of the "local" culture.... here's Paris!

Bright and early Monday morning, we boarded the train and headed for Amsterdam! Thanks to you we got to the station early AND got our tickets verified.....

Our first stop in Amsterdam was to visit the Anne Frank Museum. It was a memorable visit.

Our room was nice but very small...not a lot of leg room! | Lots of interesting ways to get around town...

Mostly they get around by bike...as evidenced by the bike parking garage | Amsterdam's version of the car seat

We both loved Amsterdam. It was a relaxing and cool city. Worthy of another visit! | Our one and only picture heading into the red light district. | This cat sat down next to me at dinner in a restaurant!

These pictures were taken around our hotel -- The Toren.

I think the highlight of the trip for you was the Netherlands vs. Hungary "football" game. Here we are at the pre-game party!

Here we are before the game --with our stylish party gear! See what happens when you bet I won't wear a hat?

Opening game ceremonies and the start of play! We saw a great game!! 5-4 victory for the Netherlands!

We had a beautiful day for our canal cruise!

Lots of great pictures from our canal cruise! | This is the only draw bridge in Amsterdam.

Your local "culture" pics from Amsterdam!

Bright and early Wednesday morning, we left for Switzerland. We had to fly into London and then into Zurich followed by the train to St. Moritz

Beautiful St. Moritz Switzerland!! | Just waiting to start a fight in Switzerland....

Sitting outside our hotel! | The view from our hotel balcony! | This picture was taken from laying on the hotel bed! | Here you are in St. Moritz Switzerland!

On Thursday we started on our next adventure. We rode the Glacier Express from St. Moritz to Zermatt! It was an unbelievably beautiful trip! ALL ABOARD!

Comfortably aboard the train, we start our journey! The beginning of the trip was mostly greenery!

We saw many small Swiss towns and churches along our route!

Sheep grazing along the Swiss countryside!

We entered the long tunnel (photo on left) and when we came out, it was incredibly blinding from the snow covered ground and mountains. It was amazing!

More scenery from the Glacier Express!

You got a kick out of her sleeping during most of the ride! | Here's your $25 lunch which I couldn't have! | The Swiss Alps are breathtaking! | We were having glare issues!

The Glacier Express arrives in Zermatt! | Zermatt - our hotel is in the rear of the picture! | You standing in the middle of the town! | Zermatt is "car free" - electric taxis

Finally time for a beverage! | Our Zermatt hotel - "Hotel Butterfly" and you crashing!

Zermatt - home of the Matterhorn! You and I took the Gonergrat bahn up the mountain.

Here we are enjoying the various elevations, views, and buildings on the mountain.

You and I enjoying our morning at the Matterhorn. It was a beautiful sunny day and not terribly cold so we were able to stay up there for quite some time.

You were checking out the guy passed out on the airport floor... | Here we are, back at the airport, heading home. We had a great week, saw three great countries and had a wonderful time together. I am so glad we were able to explore Europe -- just me and you. To quote you, "it was an unforgettable trip." Love, Mom
