FC: A smile as sweet as spring | Out & About in Southeast Asia with Tamara, Tanika & Dylan (Spring & Summer 2010)
1: (April 2010) We took a trip to Malaysian Borneo to a place called Kuching It means "Cat City" in Malay but we didn't see any cats... Dylan liked it a lot. Tika did not.
2: Dylan's 4th birthday March 23, 2010 He loved the Spiderman book from Grammy!

5: We had a lot of fun starting off our trip in our old home of Phuket. We tried a lot of restaurants (which we didn't do while living there) | As always, I enjoyed driving. Tika was an excellent navigator, climate controller and DJ throughout the whole road trip. | PHUKET
6: Dylan fell out of bed & sliced two fingers on a luandry basket! | Dylan & Tiger take the back seat! | Sayan's ancestor carved this prayer pagoda. | At an old fort by the river | A bodhi tree | Detail of a temple roof, sunset. | Ancient chedi, sunset. | Second Stop: | The ancient capitol of Ayodhya
7: Tika said she was tired of seeing all the "fancied up" temples ... | ... And so started our quest to see ancient temple grounds!
8: Phimai Temple This is an Angkor Wat era temple - Lots of carvings! | There were many largish things moving about under that algae!!
9: Small dancing figure | Buddha statue (in a room full of wasps) | Lots of naga (snake crest) details! | This guy showed up at 3 different temples ... | Third Stop: Phimai Nakhon Ratchasima
10: We stopped off at a 350+ year old banyan tree ... Dylan bought a bird to release, to "make merit" (Buddhist version of penance)
11: After Phimai, we headed into Isaan - the northeast of Thailand, bordering on Laos and Cambodia. We visited my old friend Tuk (Tika's former nanny) in her home village in Ubon Ratchathani province. Her village is renovating their local temple. These paintings are in their common hall. | Fourth Stop: Baan Dtao Dam
12: Pi Tuk was happy to see us, too!
13: chicken catching! | Dylan learned a new sport ...
14: Tuk's family village farms rice. | So, we went to look at the paddies. Sadly, big droughts followed by flooding rains made it a poor harvest this year.
15: We had heaps of fun in the village - Dylan got to go on a motorbike ... I got to cuddle a cute baby girl ... | Village Excitement! | The elder women of the village all gave us blessings and string bracelets for good luck ... | I got to meet Tuk's son ... | And Dylan honed his hole-digging skills!

17: Fifth Stop: Buriram Province Phanom Rung Temple | This guy, AGAIN! | More snakes ... | It was a HUGE area! | Some random teen guy wanted a pic with Tika. Can you blame him? | There was a long walkway ...
18: The kids love playing video and driving games ... | Heading back to Phuket ... first in Bangkok, a lazy day by the river ...

20: Olivia's 5th birthday party... | This is Olivia ... she and Tika are "sisters" | Tika is idolized by the little girls ... she;s taking a breather here! | It was a Princess & Pirates theme party (in case you didn't figure that out!
21: Having 2 homes is hard! | Almost Home ... last weeks in Phuket before heading back to Singapore ... | Dylan at the dentist OUCH! | Tika channels a valley girl! | Mommy's "rock star" look by Dylan! | 4 weeks road trip over *** All packed up!
22: Back in Singapore - In a back street off Chinatown, there are some lovely temples and little parks!
23: Dylan loves hamming it up for the camera ... He loves his legos ... He loves his sister (who took the black and white photo of him!) He loves ice cream & his Spiderman backpack!
24: "Seedlings turn overnight to sunflowers, blossoming even as we gaze ..." | Remember when Tika was 3? Can't believe she's 15 already ...
