FC: Tarren & Mom's European Adventure 2011 | SPAIN FRANCE ITALY

1: Tarren and Mom traveled to Europe in June, 2011. Our trip began at the Chicago, then to Amsterdam, and finally landed in Madrid, Spain. What a marvelous time we had.

6: good eats | Spain is famous for churros and chocolate sauce and of course . . . TAPAS!!! These we ate at a quaint bar/restaurant that tried to give Tarren a glass of red wine to drink!

7: We spent several hours walking along the streets. We saw beautiful Flamenco dresses and wonderful street performers!

8: This is the famous Don Quixote Monument in Madrid.

9: On to Barcelona . . . | The Cathedral of La Sagrada Famlia UNESCO World Heritage Site

10: Tarren loved to play on the beach | Mediterranean Sea! | The Statue of Columbus

13: A few more photos of Spain! The pretty lady was our tour guide in Barcelona. The large bull are old billboards, but the people like them, so they have them all along the freeway. Below, Tarren is goofing around in Parque Guell.

16: We enjoyed our trip amidst the rain, fog and cold windy days. We did a lot of walking and travelled long distances with our heavy backpacks... and loved it.

18: Twilight at Carcassonne, France A UNESCO World Heritage Site

19: The Medieval Village

20: The aqueduct was constructed by the Romans in the 1st century AD. It is the highest of all Roman aqueduct, with three levels of bridges and is the best preserved.

21: Pont du Gard, France A UNESCO World Heritage Site

23: Avignon, France UNESCO World Heritage Site. It is known as the Palace of the Popes and was the capitol of the Catholic church from 1309-1423.

24: Pisa, Italy Baptistery & Cathedral | UNESCO World Heritage Site

25: The Leaning Tower of Pisa is a bell tower that took 177 years to build. Construction began in the 12th century.

26: Florence, Italy

27: A city of history, romance, & beauty. UNESCO World Heritage Site!

28: Traveling | through town

29: Florence was one of the most wealthy cities in Europe. This is were the gold florin originates. The bankers financed the church & government. | The famous cathedral is made from three colors of marble: rose, green & white. We climbed to the top of the dome!

33: Florence was a lot of fun! We walked and walked all over the town. There were cute shops and even a performer let Tarren play his violin while were were waiting in line to climb the dome! What an awesome day!

34: This is the Basilica of San Francesco of Assisi in Italy. We took a tour and walked through the small village. It is a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

36: ROME!!! We first went to visit the Vatican to visit the Pope, but he wasn't there! So we took a short tour of the Sistine Chapel. We also visited some ruins, the Trevi Fountain, the Colosseum, the Spanish Steps, and the Pantheon.

40: To the left is one of their national monuments, above is Tarren standing on the Spanish Steps. Tarren had his picture drawn on the top of the steps. The other pictures show us walking through Rome.

42: Trevi Fountain We both threw in a coin, which means we will return to Rome someday! Yeah!

44: Mount Vesuvius | Pompeii

46: We visited the ruins of Pompeii. Mysterious and beautiful at the same time.

47: Remains of the ashen casts of artifacts. People, objects, even pets were found.

48: Sorrento!! What a beautiful city!

49: The Island of Capri This is the last stop of our tour. What a beautiful and amazing place!

50: Capri is an island playground for the rich and famous. Many famous celebrities vacation here. Gorgeous!

51: Island Paradise! | Final day in Europe! We had a fabulous time!
