S: Southwest April 2010
FC: "Retiremonth" in the West
We are off celebrating Lynn's "retirement". He had to take the month of April off before he can be rehired. We stopped in Panama City for a sandwich. If we see something of interest we will stop and check it out
We were riding down I-10 and saw a sign for Fort Lancaster. So, we decided to detour and check it out. Fort Lancaster was a dust bowl. Lynn and I could not imagine being stationed in this sand pit.
 Carlsbad Caverns, New Mexico
Stalactite Hang down from ceiling | Stalagmite form on the floor of the cave
We had dinner at The Trinity Hotel in Carlsbad. The entrees were good but the dessert was a YUMMY banana's foster cheesecake.
Artesia, NM What a surprise when we drove through the town and saw all these cool sculptures.
 WHITE SANDS NEW MEXICO
 Tombstone, AZ
 World's Largest Rose Bush
This guy was a blacksmith. It is a small world. He is best friends with Lynn's cousin and lives next door to Lynn's uncle in Idaho.
 The Grand Canyon
When we got to the Grand Canyon it was VERY windy and cold. It started to snow. The wind was blowing so hard the snow was horizontal.
We went to Jerome, AZ and had lunch at the Haunted Hamburger. There was a long wait but it was worth it. They had the best hamburger I have ever eaten. We went to the "haunted" Grand Hotel and looked around.. Fun Day!
SEDONA, AZ | Hilton Resort and Spa
Cusina Rustica the BEST restaurant EVER.
 Scenes around Sedona
It's my birthday! We are in Page, Az checking out the Glen Canyon Dam
ZION NATIONAL PARK | Driving through the park we decided to try to climb this rock. It was steeper than it looked.
We watched a herd of mountain goats. The scenery was incredible.
We hiked several of the trails in the park. There were numerous waterfalls and beautiful views of the mountains. This is just one of them.
We had a great day. We were only going to hike the short trail. But, wound up taking the long way around. It was a 3 mile hike instead of a 1.5. The trail was steep and moderately difficult.
We drove to Moab on scenic Route 12. Some of it was boring with lots of grey/white rock. The scenery changed from red rock to green mountains. At one point we were riding on a ridge only two lanes wide, 1000 ft. down, and no guard rail. We got to Moab and rode out to Arches National Park to see the formations.
Walking in tracks left by dinosaurs! My imitation of a t-rex.
We took a jet boat tour down the river. Our captain's name was Rory. He had a great sense of humor and was a really nice guy.
Whitewater rafting trip. Level 1-2 rapids. We barely got wet. Scenery was great and they served a good lunch. | Backwards clock in diner in Moab. It is time to head home :(
On our way to Canyonlands National Park. White Arch was just off the highway. We drove through Monticello, Utah a small town with a temple.
Even the skies wept when we had to go home
