BC: 6th Grade PCE
FC: Outdoor Ed 2012 By Jake McDonald Mrs.Janicik | Nothing like spending time with friends in the mountains.
Suddenly, laughter erupted the camp fire. That was just one of the memories at Outdoor Ed. I had many thoughts before leaving for OE. I was excited to to learn new things, I was thinking that would be homesick because I would miss my parents, and I was also pumped to spend a full three full days with my friends. Thankfully, my trip was amazing! My roommates were my friends so we stayed up all night telling jokes. The trip was fun because of the Survival Game, the night hike, and the Rocky Mountain Park hike.
Those teachers made the game much harder!
No one took pictures of the night hike so there are pictures of the day hike instead.
We found many rock formations were found on hike.
What I thought was a great part of OE was the Survival Game. It was a game where we all played right before we left. The rules are simple. We each have a life card and we are looking for food and water (two of the counselors). When you found them they gave you a point for you “team” or day group. The hard part was the teachers had water guns and tried to squirt us and if they did you gave them your life card and you have to run all the way to Cassidy who handed them out. It was fun because we played in the forest so we had to run a lot. It was fun too because it reminded me of The Hunger Games. It was a blast!
 Oh no!!!!! They got caught!!
Many disappointments when getting sprayed by teachers!
Nothing like a good squirt of cool water on a hot day.
I had many emotions on the night hike. It was filled with laughter and screaming. It all started when we were walking to our destination in the dark, crisp night. First we headed to the creek and Ethan, our guide sat down and told a story about Patchy the pirate. He could steal gold on a boat in the dead of night. He could see in the dark because he had one eye patch that was one eye at day and the other at night so they would be adjusted. Then, we headed a little farther and we all found a partner and Ethan told another story. It was about a mint-tasting bug that was nicknamed “winterfresh” and when you ate the bugs they glow in your mouths. He handed out these bugs and we ate them. It sparked in our mouths! It was funny. Then, we all sat down in a circle and Ethan told a scary story. It was not scary but when he yelled “yes” I screamed like a little girl! When we got back we had grape juice and bars.
I love the smell of sugary trees in the morning!
 Oh Vince you crazy boy!!
 Resting on our long hike.
We also went on another hike and it was at day. We woke up and had breakfast. Then, we headed to the buses. On the bus we sang songs and told stories. When we got there my day group and I were off. On the hike me and Grace told stories of our travels out of the country. Every now and then we would stop and Ethan would tell us something about the park or nature. One time he stopped and told us about the Ponderosa Pine Tree. It smelled like sugar and butterscotch because sugar was trapped into the bark. My friends and I played games to pass the time. When we got to our destination called the pools it was awesome and pretty. We took pictures and saw elk on the way back it was awesome.
 Exploring with friends!!
The whole day group on a bridge across a waterfall.
Look at our surprise on a hike!.
Covenant Heights did a very good job giving us a fun time. The survival game was fun and tiring. The night hike was though was all for fun. Finally, the hike was fun and informal. This time in Estes Park was a blast and will treasure the trip forever.
 Crazy me being crazy
