GUATEMALA | GUATEMALA | ARRIVED 21 JAN 2012 | is a Spanish speaking country in central America. On January 21, 2012 I traveled there to experience the culture, history, religion, and the many special qualities of the country first hand.

I traveled from Portland Maine to Guatemala City by plane.

I Drove from the airport in a Vintage VW Bug that I rented. I drove to my first Hotel, the Caleta Azul.

I traveled to Peten, Guatemala, home of the ancient Mayan ruins. I took a taxi. In Penten I stayed at the Jungle Lodge.

I also Kayaked on Lake Petén Itzá, which was beautiful! This relates to Geography because it is the second largest Lake in Guatemala and it provides many natural resources. | I visited the Ixpanpajul Nature Park in Peten. Here I zip lined through the jungle and got a birds eye view of the nature of Guatemala. It was so fun!

TIKAL | In Penten I visited the ancient Mayan Ruins of Tikal. It was an amazing experience. This Relates to history because the Mayans lived in Guatemala before the Spanish arrived.

In Peten I went to the Cafe Arqueologico Yaxha. I had Pescado Blanco (left), which I regret because I hate fish! It was yucky! I also had pollo en tamarindo (below), which was delicious! This relates to culture because food is very important to the people of Guatemala, and it reflects who they are.

ANTIGUA | Final Stop | 25 JAN 2013 | Traveling by bus, I went to my final destination, Antigua Guatemala. I decided to stay at Hotel Cirilo, because it was simply beautiful!

In Antigua I also visited the Antigua Cathedral. I decided to do it at night, so I could see it all lit up. It was beautiful. This relates to religion because religion is very important to the people of Guatemala.

sydney harbor bridge | Sadly, it is time to go back home. so I travel back to my departure city, Guatemala City. I had so much fun while in Guatemala City, and I know that I will be back again some day! | Adiós Guatemala!
