BC: DEPARTED | GUATEMALA | 27 JAN 2013
1: GUATEMALA | GUATEMALA | ARRIVED 21 JAN 2012 | is a Spanish speaking country in central America. On January 21, 2012 I traveled there to experience the culture, history, religion, and the many special qualities of the country first hand.
2: I traveled from Portland Maine to Guatemala City by plane.
4: I Drove from the airport in a Vintage VW Bug that I rented. I drove to my first Hotel, the Caleta Azul.
6: I traveled to Peten, Guatemala, home of the ancient Mayan ruins. I took a taxi. In Penten I stayed at the Jungle Lodge.
7: I also Kayaked on Lake Petén Itzá, which was beautiful! This relates to Geography because it is the second largest Lake in Guatemala and it provides many natural resources. | I visited the Ixpanpajul Nature Park in Peten.Here I zip lined through the jungle and got a birds eye view of the nature of Guatemala. It was so fun!
8: TIKAL | In Penten I visited the ancient Mayan Ruins of Tikal. It was an amazing experience. This Relates to history because the Mayans lived in Guatemala before the Spanish arrived.
9: In Peten I went to the Cafe Arqueologico Yaxha. I had Pescado Blanco (left), which I regret because I hate fish! It was yucky! I also had pollo en tamarindo (below), which was delicious! This relates to culture because food is very important to the people of Guatemala, and it reflects who they are.
10: ANTIGUA | Final Stop | 25 JAN 2013 | Traveling by bus, I went to my final destination, Antigua Guatemala. I decided to stay at Hotel Cirilo, because it was simply beautiful!
11: I decided to visit the Antigua Market, and it was fascinating! All the different colors and products, everything from food to clothes to crafts! It was wonderful!This relates to the economy because many people depend on this market for income.
12: In Antigua I also visited the Antigua Cathedral. I decided to do it at night, so I could see it all lit up. It was beautiful. This relates to religion because religion is very important to the people of Guatemala.
13: sydney harbor bridge | Sadly, it is time to go back home. so I travel back to my departure city, Guatemala City. I had so much fun while in Guatemala City, and I know that I will be back again some day! | Adiós Guatemala!
