S: Planes, Trains, Automobiles, y Burros | John and Brenda | Peru 2011

BC: What an adventure! What a team!

FC: Planes, Trains, Automobiles ...and Burros John and Brenda, Peru 2011 | Peru!

First Stop: Lima | John was finishing up his 2-week audit while Brenda prepared to make her way down to Lima to meet him for the beginning of the great adventure!

Lima is a beautiful city! We stayed in the Miraflores district.

I went swimming in the Pacific Ocean with the sea lions, or "los lobos marinos" and even saw penguins!

 Lima

Look who finally made it! We took a bus tour of the city that night...which included a bit more translating than John had planned on. After the marvelous tour of downtown Lima, we feasted at Laenñe. There wasn't enough wine to wash down the taste of octopus tentacles.

Our tour culminated with the "Magic Fountains" in Reservoir Park. | The Magic Water Circuit is one of the newest and most visited attractions in Lima. Honored with a Guinness Record and unique in South America, the circuit offers thirteen impressive fountains that combine movement, lights, sounds and images.

The next day was tour time for Brenda | Museo Nacional de Arqueología, Antropología e Historia del PerÃuº

While Brenda was touring... | ...The team, Guadalupe and I went to La Rosa Nautica

But then we met up again and enjoyed our last afternoon and evening in Lima before heading into the Sacred Valley | We paused for some "Senior Photos" | This one is better than my REAL Sr. photo

Finally on our way to the Sacred Valley! | Travel Guides and water, just the necessities | Next stop: Cusco, and straight off to Urubamba! | Inca Koladdicted

Forecast calls for rain, just a quick stop on the way to the hotel!

Our first day out-- off to Pisac! | "Jeff" told us all about the ruins | Livin' on the edge!

 Lounging, Inca Style

We spent most of the afternoon browsing the Market of Pisac. We had huge corn and empanadas, bought souvenirs and generally had a great time!

We walked around Urubamba, took in the sights of the tiny village and in the evening we had a fantastic dinner at Tres Keros

 Next Stop: Machu Picchu!

About 4am on Monday, we left the hotel and started the epic journey to Machu Picchu

First, "Jeff" drove us to Ollantaytambo. Then we took a train to Aguas Calientes. Then we took a bus up to the ancient city.

After what seemed like an eternity, we were greeted by one of the most amazing sights we had ever seen!

Dayman! aaaAAhhh Fighter of the NIGHT man! | Just don't touch the sun stone!

We were amazed by the incredible terraces at Machu Picchu. | This was the bus route to the top...buses came within inches of each other when passing. | Those are stairs?

Happy Tourists! | "Baby Llaaamaaa!" | "Eew EEEW! Get away tourist! " | The perfectly constructed Temple of the Sun

This is one of the coolest places EVER! | Now THAT'S a ledge!

We went back up to the top to pray the clouds would clear, and sure enough, the Inca Sun God, Inti, smiled on us. I'm so glad I didn't touch his stone!

It was rainy all day, until we got back to town, then it really cleared up. Still an amazing day!

As the weather cleared, we had a great late lunch, and shopped Aguas Calientes | Front row on the way back to Ollantaytambo. Thank you Peru Rail! No thank you for the crap food... | Whew! Now home to Urubamba for a night and then back to Lima!

The next morning we were up with the sun again and "Jeff" drove us to Cusco to catch our flight back to Lima. | My own sherpa! | We just missed Mac, Dennis, and Sweet Dee!

One last stop before heading to the airport. A traditional Peruvian weaving center.

We made it back to Lima just in time to explore the markets and find out our flights were canceled due to the great snow storm of 2011...So naturally, we booked the best hotel in the area and headed to the country club for some Pisco and then a night out on the town! | Our new friend Javier and an impromptu pisco tasting and tutorial. It's derived from grapes!

 Our last day in Lima!
