Trip to England - Page Text Content

1: From London to Penzance - A ramble across Cornwall | In 1902, my Great Grandfather Francis Joseph Kaupp Clarke (1881 - 1953) embarked on a walking tour of the South West Coast Path of Cornwall County, UK. Thanks to a well-preserved and well-written diary of his trip, my parents were able to re-trace many of his footsteps 100 years later. 8 years later (2010), Jana and I visited many of the same spots 'Papa Clarke' had visited over 100 years ago. Much to our delight, the vivid landscapes my Great Grandfather had described in his diary had remained. This photo book attempts to capture this breathtaking sea-side trail the way we experienced it - Jarett Doyle (August, 2010)

19: It has been an amazing experience retracing some of Jarett's great grandfather's footsteps on the South West Coast Path in 1902. Papa Clarke's diary traveled with us on each hike and visit, and we often paused to imagine how he saw things over 100 years ago. It was wonderful to visit landmarks still in existence, like the Red Lion Inn and the Botallack Mines and to know that much efforts continue in preserving such historic places. We were blessed with excellent English hospitality (minus a hit & run on the road), and it was hard to leave Cornwall at the end of our trip. Papa Clarke's journey continued northward into Wales. Perhaps one day Jarett and I can return to complete the journey and to pay another visit to the lovely places and people of Cornwall. Thanks to Jarett for including me on the eye-opening journey :) - Jana Tsang (August, 2010) | Epilogue....
