FC: United States Virgin Islands April 2008 Will Family
This is a compilation of the wonderful memories from our vacation to the United States Virgin Islands. Brian, Jonique, Dawson and Micayla Will
April 1, 2008 The flight was late getting into Puerto Rico so we missed our connecting flight. The airline put us up in a hotel for the night. Micayla and Mom had one room and they had a great night having a pajama party. Dawson and Dad shared another room and watched TV all night!
We took the ferry from St. Thomas to St. John. We arrived at Cruz Bay.
We stayed at Maho Beach Campground in Cabin #A5. It was a long walk to our cabin but it was a great experience! | Our cabin | The views from the cabins were incredible! We even saw an iguana lounging in a tree!
 The "master bedroom" looking out.
Geckos and little frogs slept with us in the tent. Micayla was able to catch one of the frogs. The cabin had 2 twin beds that we put together, one cot that Micayla slept on and one couch that made into a bed for Dawson. It came with a camp stove and a cooler. The walls were screens but also had shades that we could pull down at night. It was quite a walk to the bathrooms and showers. The showers were clean but VERY COLD! | frog
The campgound had a great restaurant with reasonable prices. It had a wonderful view at night. At night we went to dinner at a local restaurant and had a conversation with a couple that lived on the island. They were really nice to us and even gave us a water camera and a flashlight. | Maho Beach had great snorkeling. We saw sea urchins galore! We also saw iguanas running on the beach and in the trees! It rained on and off for a few days. As we swam, we watched a pelican eat a fish right in front of us.
The roads were extremely narrow with sharp turns and steep hills. You really do need a 4-wheel drive. This is a picture of their two lane highway! | An iguana running on the beach! | A purple piece of fan coral! | Micayla fed the local birds with syrup on her hand.
 Francis Bay April 3rd
"God called the dry ground "land," and the gathered waters he called "seas." And God saw that it was good." Genesis 1:10
Leinster Bay April 4th This was the most fantastic day! We hiked about a mile from the car to the bay. We snorkeled and swam with the most beautiful sea creatures! They didn't seem to mind that we were swimming with them. It was the most incredible experience!
There were wild donkeys on the island. They were friendly and we were able to pet them.
Leinster Bay The most memorable time in the USVI was swimming with the beautiful turtles. They are so graceful! It was wonderful to see the whole family underwater, quietly swimming alongside these amazing creatures that God made.
Although the camera didn't capture the true beauty of the turtles and fish, they were incredible. | A stingray! | A barracuda! | "Praise the LORD from the earth you great sea creatures and all ocean depths." Psalm 148:7
Micayla played in the sand with some boys... | and they buried her!
The hike back to the car from Leinster Bay. So beautiful! | The hike back to the car from Leinster Bay was beautiful!

April 4th What an indescribable bay! This is reportedly the most photographed beach in the world and understandably so. The water was unbelievably clear and turquoise! It didn't seem real. There was an underground snorkeling trail that we followed. Brian swam over a nurse shark. We saw pipefish and gorgeous coral!
Trunk Bay | "Delight yourself in the LORD and he will give you the desires of your heart." Psalm 37:4
 Trunk Bay
Visiting Caneel Bay Resort April 5th
Cinnamon Bay Dawson learned to windsurf from Liam, his instructor.
The drive around the island had magnificent views.
A local boy rings the church bell. | St. John Moravian Church | We attended church on Sunday and it was an unusual experience. Their songs have the same words as ours but the notes are completely different. The pastor had a wonderful Caribbean accent and said "Jesus... he gonna come bahk soon!"
Ferry from St. John back to St. Thomas
Charlotte Amalie, St. Thomas | Downtown Charlotte Amalie has wonderful little shops known for many things, including inexpensive jewelry. Brian and Micayla are standing in one of the many walking alleys. They also had street vendors selling typical Caribbean items. We bought a hot pink tie-dyed outfit for Micayla, a Caribbean opal for Jonique, a multi-stone ring and a beautiful blue scarf for Aunt Jennifer. We really loved their inhibition when it came to professing their faith in God. (See the back of the city bus below!)
We stayed at the Best Western Emerald Beach in Charlotte Amalie. It was near the airport but we weren't bothered by the planes.
"The righteous will flourish like a palm tree.." Psalm 92:12
"Shout with joy to God, all the earth! Sing the glory of his name; make his praise glorious!" Psalm 66:1-2
"Shout with joy to God, all the earth! Sing the glory of his name; make his praise glorious!" Psalm 66:1-2
" ... guide me in your truth and teach me, for you are God my Savior, and my hope is in you all day long." Psalm 25:5
"Many, O LORD my God, are the wonders you have done. The things you planned for us no one can recount to you; were I to speak and tell of them, they would be too many to declare." Psalm 40:5
Coral World We swam with the South American Sea Lions.
Coral World Dawson wanted to swim with sharks! | shark | son
 Coral World Aquarium
 Wild iguanas were quite common!
Snuba Diving This is a combination of scuba diving and snorkeling. The oxygen tanks were not on our backs but held on a boat above and connected to us by tubes. At first Micayla was hesitant and the ear popping was difficult for all of us to get used to but eventually, we had a blast!
Coki Point Beach The fish were gorgeous! They ate right out of our hands. There were many of these striped fish, grunts and also beautiful parrotfish! We fed them dog biscuits!
We drove to the top of a mountain where we could see the cruise ships docked in Charlotte Amalie. | Hook, Line and Sinker Restaurant... Dawson was very excited to try rum cake!
Megan's Bay This beach was really crowded so instead of hanging out in the sand, we explored the rocky sides and saw many crabs and sea urchins.
Goodbye beautiful islands.... until we see you again!
"The heavens declare the glory of God; the skies proclaim the work of his hands." Psalm 19:1 | "Sing to God, sing praise to his name, extol him who rides on the clouds — his name is the LORD — and rejoice before him." Psalm 68:4
