DAY 4: (Tues Aug 17) Unexpected delay: our car broke down in Charlotte, NC for the day DAY 5: (Wed Aug 18) On the road again! Drove through the mountains in North Carolina DAY 6: (Thurs Aug 19) sightseeing in Chattanooga, TN DAY 7: (Fri Aug 20) sightseeing in Nashville, TN DAY 8: (Sat Aug 21) NASCAR race in Bristol, TN DAY 9: (Sun Aug 22) sightseeing in Atlanta, GA DAY 10: (Mon Aug 23) Chattahoochee River in Georgia DAY 11: (Tues Aug 24) sightseeing in Charlotte, NC: race shops and NASCAR Hall of Fame DAY 12: (Wed Aug 25) Started the drive back home DAY 13: (Thurs Aug 26) Spent the night in ME and did a bit of shopping in Kittery DAY 14: (Fri Aug 27) Arrived home in the evening

15: DAY 6: Chattanooga Tennessee. RUBY FALLS

16: Ruby Falls is located on Lookout Mountain and is one of the top seven natural wonders in the US. To visit the caves, you descend 260 feet underground in an elevator. Ruby Falls is included in the tour: it's located 1120 feet underground and is 145 feet high. It is the tallest and deepest underground waterfall open to the public. | DAY 6

19: Rock City Gardens and its natural rock formations have been around since the early 1800s. In the 1920s, Garnet and Frieda Carter acquired the property and began to develop a large walk-through-garden in the rocks, marking the path that is still used today. In 1932 the gardens opened to the public with over 400 varieties of indigenous plants and trees. In 1935, Garnet started one of the most unique promotional campaigns ever envisioned: he had barns painted beside the highways leading into Chattanooga advertising to 'See Rock City'. | DAY 6

50: The front lobby of the Hall of Fame was arranged to look like a racetrack - you could test out track slopes and see the evolution of race cars throughout the years. There was even a press conference with Ray Evernham himself.
