FC: Our Ft. Lauderdale Engagement June 2, 2012
Our first da | Our first day in Ft. Lauderdale! It started out being overcast but the skies opened up during our evening walk. Drenched!
During our first night, we walked to Casablanca Cafe - voted the most romantic restaurant in Ft. Lauderdale! We enjoyed each other (and our food!) on their outdoor patio.
We woke up to the most perfect weather on our second day there. It was a pleasant surprise - we were expecting all-day thunderstorms!
We spent our second day in the sun - laying by the pool, collecting shells on the beach, and walking into a busier part of the city for lunch!
John D. was on the balcony when I put one of our favorite songs on the hotel room's iPod dock. When I told him it was on, he came in, grabbed my hand, and we started to dance. This is where we danced to "Lucky" by Jason Mraz and Colbie Caillat! | The dance was so perfect! I didn't want it to end. When the last note played and we finally let go, I went to the face mirror to finish doing my mascara before dinner. John D. went to get the ring!
By the time I turned around, he was on one knee. He held my hand and asked me to marry him! I lifted him up until he was standing and after about 3 minutes of hugging he asked, "Well, will you?" I laughed asking, "I never responded?!" and then said, "Yes, yes, of course!" During the entire proposal, Bohemian Rhapsody was playing in the background. And after the proposal, Billy Joel's, "For the Longest Time" (our song of 7 years!) just happened to play. It was perfect. | With the ring in hand, JD stood behind me for about a minute, as he tried to think of the right words to say. I was too close to the mirror to notice he was there! Finally, he placed the ring in front of my face and asked, "I was wondering if you would wear this to dinner tonight?" I glanced down just long enough to catch a glimpse of the ring, smiled, and said, "Are you kidding me right now?!"
As a newly-engaged couple, we headed to Steak 954, a great restaurant in our hotel. Our waiter, Will, brought us champagne and an amazing chocolate cupcake to help us celebrate!
We were there for four hours and ate about 4 bites of food! Our night was spent laughing and talking, not wanting the evening to end. We closed the restaurant down, leaving at 1:30 AM.
We spent our third day enjoying each other and more beautiful weather! We played in the ocean, walked the beach, and ordered lunch poolside!
We walked to our final dinner, where we ate outside at Shula's on the Beach. We were grateful for another beautiful night in Ft. Lauderdale!
This little guy was in our hotel room at the W, from day one. He was the only witness to the proposal! Our weekend in Florida was the most beautiful and exciting time in our lives and we are looking so forward to continuing going through and enjoying life together!
