FC: a love story | The Wedding of Brent and Sarah Monson
 THE WEDDING OF | BRENT & SARAH | 8.12.10 | MONSON
Dating: February - May 2010 | Clockwise from top left: Ice skating on 3rd date (Feb); Stake Dance (March) ; General Conference (April); Washburn Reunion (June); Ballet in SLC (April); Jackie's Farewell (May); Meeting Brent's Family at Easter (April); Lagoon (May).
The Engagement: May 18, 2010 | Brent and I first met on Friday, February 19, 2010 at the BYU tax lab where Brent was working as a volunteer. After doing the quality review on my tax return, we shook hands, and Brent held on a little too long. After not asking for my number, copying it from my tax form, and then losing the sticky note where he had written it, Brent was grateful to see me again the next day in the Provo Temple, where we both were serving as temple workers. He got my number from his roommate Dallin, and we went out that night to Magleby's Fresh and Borders. We pretty much saw or talked to each other every day after that. Brent proposed on his 25th birthday in front of my 4th period, 8th grade English class. He brought two dozen roses, balloons, cup cakes, and even a video camera. I laughed through the whole thing, but I still said yes!
 Engagement Pictures
We took our engagement pictures in one of my favorite places: Big Springs Park in Provo Canyon. We walked about 1/4 mile up the trail to a beautiful meadow. Spring really is the perfect time to fall in love.
"Love does not consist in gazing at each other but in looking outward together in the same direction." - Antoine de Saint-Exupery
"In true marriage there must be a union of minds as well as hearts." - Spencer W. Kimball
 Bridal Shower Hoe Down!
The Ogles family knows how to party!! Bridal shower hIghlights: all the boys singing "Deep in the Heart of Texas," Ty's rendition of "I'm Your Little Squishy Face," Mogene singing, "[He] Kissed the Teacher" while Brent had to kiss me each time she sang the word "kiss," and Brent serenading me with "Right on the Money."
 The Wedding Dinner
Magleby's atTrivani - Springville, UT | The Monsons hosted a beautiful dinner the night before the wedding. The menu included prime rib, salmon, and chicken marsala; and of course Magleby's famous chocolate cake! Each of our parents said a few words, and Brent gave a lovely speech* about how the timing of our wedding was such a tender mercy for him before his move to Houston. *On the night I told Brent I would marry him, the first thing he said as we walked out of the Provo Temple was something to the effect of, "I'm so excited to give my speech at the wedding dinner!" This is just one of the many reasons I love Brent.
The Wedding Day | We were married for time and eternity on August 12, 2010 in the Provo Utah Temple. It was a beautiful, warm summer day, and the flowers on the temple grounds were in full bloom. I don't think it could have been more perfect!
As we gathered to take group pictures in front of the temple, Brent high-fived all of the Ogles boy cousins saying, "YEAH!" just like he had just won a game (pictured above). He was excited to be married! Martha said this picture was her favorite of all our wedding pictures.
Pictured clockwise from top left: Dad, Bryan, and Marie; Uncle Ben and Will; Lisa, Bonnie, Liz, Hanna, and Becca; Brent, Sarah, and Becca; Jamie and Caroline Pickett
The grounds of the temple were absolutely beautiful. And the scent of the abundant flowers carried to the temple doors. I had been praying that they would not pull out the flowers and replant before our wedding. And my prayer was answered! It truly was a gorgeous summer day-- even if it did get a little warm in our wedding clothes.
I ALWAYS WANT TO BE WITH MY OWN FAMILY . . .
THE HAPPIEST DAY OF MY LIFE!
One of the best things about getting married at the age of 25 is that we both had dear friends who were able to attend our sealing. My roommates: Jenny, Annelies, Parris, Chelsie, and Annika all came. Plus Kelli and Josh Boyd drove up from CA. Brent's roommate Dallin and his friends from high school were also there.
What a blessing it was to have our grandmothers at our sealing! We love them!
"Marriage is beautiful when beauty is looked for and cultivated." -Gordon B. Hinckley
"Giving ourselves to one another in an eternal marriage is an unconditional giving of the whole person for the whole journey." - Marlin K. Jensen
 A DAY TO REMEMBER
HOW SWEET IT IS TO BE LOVED BY YOU . . .
Reception at theHistoric Brigham Young Academy | I never had imagined having a reception as lovely as ours turned out. We could never have done it without the help of our moms and their teams (of cousins, aunts, and family friends). Magleby's Fresh catered and cousins maned the mp3 player. It was a beautiful evening with dinner and dancing.
At our reception we set up a display of artifacts that told the story of our courtship. It was Brent's idea, and I loved it! I only wish we had a picture of the whole thing! Included were our temple shoes and tags, Brent's painting of the Provo Temple (that was still wet because he had only finished it the night before), the fortunes we had opened and paintings we had done on dates together, and a Texas flag to show where we were headed.
 Greeting the Guests
We ordered our cake from Macey's bakery mostly just for show (we actually served chocolate cake with the buffet). So, I had requested that the first two layers of the cake be made out of sytrofoam-- because it was less expensive that way. On the day of the wedding, I got a frantic phone call from the bakery asking me to call them back. I did, worried that something had gone wrong, but instead found out that they had run out of styfrofoam and had to make the bottom layer out of cake at no extra charge. Sounded like a great mistake to me! Yum! | Cutting the Cake
 Beautiful Bridesmaids
Guests | Jenny Butler, Megan Beardall, and Chelsie Watson | Elaine and Egon Boldt-- our temple worker friends | Sadie, Olivia, and Bailey Ogles | Alex Howard | Ogles Uncles: David, Callis, Ben, and Alvin | Travis, Colby, Kat, Robert, and Kim
 Throwing the Bouquet
 Taking Off
Behind the Scenes | Clockwise from top left: Hannah and Marie; Scott and Tami in the kitchen; Okaasan setting up; Mary and Okaasan; Lynette Padilla (who did all the flowers); Max and Will cleaning up.
Honeymoon | Day 2: On the road to CA-- with a stop at Makino's in Las Vegas | Day 1: Relaxing at Grandpa Howard's cabin in quiet Wallsburg, UT. | Days 3-7: Vacationing in San Diego-- including kayaking in La Jolla, going to Sea World and the San Diego Zoo, eating at every Mexican restaurant in Old Town San Diego, and going to the temple!
Last Day (after the Simi Reception): A moonlit ride on a ski lift at Sundance in Provo Canyon. We didn't have our jackets so our wedding quilt would have to do. | Day 8: Visiting Grandpa Sheranian in LA (who had hip surgery and couldn't be at the wedding), and going to the Hollywood Bowl!
Simi Valley Reception | We held our reception in Simi Valley on the grass outside the Erringer Building. It was a lovely summer evening-- perfect for the soft serve ice cream bar. We had Marie's friend DJ, and we even had a dance floor put down on the grass. What a fun night with family and friends! Thanks for all the hard work, Mom and Dad! | Saturday,August 21, 2010
Having Grandma Sheranian at our sealing in Utah and at our reception in California was such a blessing. She had been battling cancer since the time Brent and I had met, and we weren't sure how things would go. We were so glad to have her there to celebrate with us!
