124: The Speeches

126: Father of the Bride Speech | Welcome everyone and thank you for helping us celebrate Sara and Alex's wedding day. I would like to start off by thanking all of the little people in todays ceremony: Hailey, Austin, Cooper and Charlotte. In every father's (and mother's) life there are a few special and unforgettable days that stand out from all others: the birth of each child, graduations and, of course, wedding days such as this one. These are the rewards that make the hard work of raising children not only worthwhile, but more important than other accomplishments. There is great joy in seeing the next generation happily begin this new chapter in their lives. Marriage is a special institution whereby two people join together in a bonding relationship with commitment to one another to achieve happiness and common goals. However, marriage comes with no instruction manual and no road map. Each couple must find their own way through this process, and I know you two will do it brilliantly. Sara - Your mother and I love you dearly and could not be happier for you on this, your wedding day. When I was growing up my dad used to say that he hoped I would have kids like me -- fortunately, I got luckier than that and had you and Anne. From the moment you were handed to me upon birth (whereby you immediately "baptized" me as your father) you have been a joy in our lives. It has been fun recalling some of the highlights in your younger life: Your changing dresses every couple of hours from the age of 2; the "fun" Gak event in Orlando when you were 8; and the Muchie greeting you came up with at 10. Now you are a young married woman with a new champion in your life (Alex, now you get to kill the spiders in the bedroom). You have found a wonderful man for a husband and I know you will make him very happy. Alex - We have come to know you well over the last few of years and are pleased that you and Sara have chosen each other. I am proud to have gained you as a son-in-law. I know you will love and take good care of our precious Sara. Alex, welcome to our family! (By the way, all sales are final, there are no refunds and NO returns!) Sara and Alex - We here today, your family and friends, take this occasion to wish you all the best at the beginning of your lifetime journey together. Love each other and take care of one another. May your marriage be prosperous, fruitful and happy. Enjoy the ride! Everyone - Let us drink a toast to Sara and Alex, the happy couple!

127: Maid of Honor Speech | To my sister: It took 5 years for me to get a sibling. Growing up I would not always admit I loved my sister but I did. I secretly loved having her around, and it probably wasn't much of a secret anyways. We had the usual sibling rivalries like taking each others things. I remember during several Christmas’, Sara took things we already owned and would gift them back to me, my mom and my dad. The presents were wrapped beautifully so I always thought she bought us something new. I guess I should have just been thankful she didn't take something I desperately needed, like my Gameboy. Believe it or not we didn't always fight. We loved to build tents in the den using all the blankets and towels we could find. We would hide in our “caves” and watch TV, play games, and tell stories. We would work to get our tents to stay up for days at a time. Reminiscing about our childhood right now is really making me wish we had just a few more years together building tents, telling stories, and just hanging out as kids. Unfortunately however, we have had our time together as kids, and now you are starting a new chapter in your life with Alex. A chapter where you will be able to build tents, tell stories, and grow as husband and wife. I wish you both a life full of happiness and love.
