BC: The End

FC: the smith family | 2012

Melia and Kaia are our happy thoughts. They bring so much sunshine, laughter and joy into our home. We are always fascinated by their wild imaginations and outgoing spirit. They inspire us to be daring, take chances, and dream. We are so grateful for our little giggly girls. Life would not be the same without them.

February was a lot of fun. Great Granny Marilyn and Terry stopped by for a visit. Krista, Melia and Kaia spent a lot of time outdoors- the picture to the left was taken at the Berkeley Rose Garden late February. Valentine's Day was sweet and simple, with the girl's enjoying some sweet treats. It was a fun month.

March was simply gorgeous. We spent a lot of time outdoors, hiking, playing, eating dinner on the deck. We took a trip to The Little Farm in Tilden for an afternoon hike. The sun was gleaming through the trees. We saw the baby cows and fed the older cows, goats and ducks fresh lettuce. We took a walk around Jewel Lake and played in the playground. It was a wonderful afternoon with just us. Early in March Krista, Melia and Kaia spent a glorious Friday outdoors, with the girls sporting their sweet, rainbow dresses. The day involved playing in the backyard, showing off at Krista's work, and marching up Solano Avenue. Such fun! | march

In April Krista and Melia flew to Colorado to help celebrate Auntie Heather's baby shower. It was a fun girl's trip. We stayed with Auntie Heather and Uncle Victor, which made it even more special. We visited Grammy's new house and Melia got to play with all of her cousin's. Fun!

april | April was filled to the brim, probably our busiest month. There were a couple of trips, school fun, and so much more. | Melia's preschool hosted their annual fundraising trike-a-thon event in April. The school was raising money for a few much-needed items, and the kids had fun doing it. The picture above was taken at the end of the event: Melia with her school buds, Lucy, Gemma and Violet. | April began our 3 month long deconstruction of our downstairs bathroom, laundry, and deck. | Here is a sweet picture of the girls hanging out on the deck. Ryan was working a lot of late hours so we spent a lot of time eating dinner on the deck in the warm Spring nights. | Sweet pigtails!

 april...

April was soooo much fun! We celebrated Jacob's 3rd birthday at Disneyland- it was the first time taking the girls. Beccah, Matan, Grandma, Papa, Amy, Henry and Jacob were all there to celebrate. Ryan was stuck in the hotel room most of the time with the stomach flu. Boo.

Both Passover and Easter were celebrated in Northridge this year with the Birken's and Miller's. It is always so much fun seeing all of the adults, but even more fun watching the newest generation of cousin's playing and having fun.

may May was Mother's Day, Krista's birthday, Melia's preschool graduation and gymnastics show. Pat and Kim also stopped by and announced their engagement!

June is always a busy month! We celebrated Melia's 5th birthday, jammie style. She invited all of her friends, and Aunt Mel and Uncle Les came. There was a tattoo-balloon lady, ebelskivers, and cinnamon roll cupcakes. For Melia's birthday celebration at school she wore her pj's. At lunchtime Krista picked her up early and took her to Barney's for lunch and then princess mani and pedi. We celebrated Ryan's birthday at Chevy's - margaritas and mexican food...Ryan's favorites! Father's Day was celebrated with the KNS families during the annual campout. Unfortunately Ryan got the stomach flu (again) and left early. Krista was left with two kids and a campsite to take down. We missed Ryan but still had a fun time camping. | 5!

 june | kns campout

Fourth of July was a blast. For the first time we didn't have prime parking for the El Cerrito World One Music Festival, but we still went. We met up with some friends, danced, and listened to amazing music. Melia still isn't a fan of fireworks so we didn't see any live, but we did see them on TV. These fun pictures were taken in the backyard.

In August Melia graduated from KNS {Kensington Nursery School}. Both mommy and daddy were there to celebrate. Since we were not able to take a vacation this year we decided to let Melia have a little fun for a few weeks before starting Kindergarten. Krista and Melia visited Water World, Fenton's Creamery, the Splash Park in El Cerrito, the SF Aquarium and Pier 39, and Pump It Up. Ryan and Melia went up to San Pablo Reservoir for the day and rented a boat. Melia even got to drive! | august | bye bye kns! | i'm ready! oops, no s! | welcome to wilbur's class, room 2 | big girl, sad mama | Summer Fun!

In September Melia and Kaia visited a working farm in Lafayette. They were there celebrating the 5th birthday of one of Melia's good friends, Gemma. Melia and Kaia were able to hold hens, pick eggs, brush goats, and ride ponies. The girls had an absolute blast, I think it won't be long before we go back. | september

The end of September Krista ran her first sprint triathlon. It was a fundraiser for the Albany High School sporting department. There participants of all ages, from jr. high students to senior citizens. Krista trained hard and was happy to be finished. Congratulations Mama! ::swim ::bike ::run

Asilomar State Beach | Santa Cruz Beach | Monterey Bay Aquarium

Car packed, snacks and drinks in hand and ready to hit the road...and we're off! Ryan worked really hard this past year and I decided that as soon as his conference was over we'd take a much needed mini vacation down the coast to Monterey. Beaches, aquarium, pumpkin patches, and good food...here we come! | After a long day of playing in the corn maze and picking pumpkins at Earthbound Organic Farms, the girls were clearly wiped out. | We stayed at the Asilomar Cottages in Asilomar, walking distance to the beach. The girls had a blast running around in the water, and Melia was almost swallowed by a wave. | Monterey | october 2012

Halloween Party at the Little Red Wagon | Dorothy and Toto!

Bride getting ready photos | Wilbur's Kindergarten Class | Mom's Group Annual Halloween Potluck and Trick-or-Treating

Happy 2nd birthday, Kaia Boo! This year was a berry special party because Kaia LOVES strawberries! We had lots of family and friends come over to the house to celebrate. Cactus Taqueria, Kaia's favorite burrito joint, was served, and plenty of fresh strawberries. | lunch with mama at smart alec's | dinner with the family at fenton's creamery | I'm 2! | november

We had a wonderful Thanksgiving this year. It was the first time i a long while that we spent it with friends. Our old neighbors, Chris and Randy, invited us over to celebrate with their family. It was relaxing and entertaining, and a lot of fun. November saw a lot of rain so there was a lot of indoor play. Melia continued her ballet, working towards her December recital. Kaia loves jumping, skipping and dancing. | november

december | December brought a lot of family to town. Mid-December Grandma, Papa, Auntie Amy and Jacob came to play. We visited the carousel at Tilden, played at Lawrence Hall of Science, decorated a Christmas village, and opened lots of presents. Melia had her ballet recital, and Auntie Amy was able to watch. Thanks for visiting! | Look what Papa made for Kaia's 2nd birthday!

This year we decided to stay home for Christmas. Beccah, Chad and Matan came up to experience their first Christmas with us. We had a nice Christmas Eve lasagna dinner followed by a magical neighborhood luminaria and marshmallow roast. We opened presents Christmas morning and enjoyed a wonderful waffle brunch.

NYE was spent at home as we were all under the weather. The air was chilly and the fireplace was cozy, and we had a delicious array of good food and sparkly beverages. With Kaia asleep by 8 we counted down the new year with the east coast, and at 9pm we shook bells and danced. It was just perfect.
