10: The Professional team captained by Malcolm Young won the twelfth edition of the Dubai Golf Trophy. Fraser Mclaughlan and Ryan Smith triumphed in their singles fixtures simultaneously on the 16th and 15th respectively to enable the professional outfit to reach the 16 and a half point winning tally. The Professionals finished on 17 points with the amateurs led by Miki Mirza on 15. Going into the final day the professionals led 10 - 6 after a series of fourballs and foursomes matches and were rightly confident going into the 16 singles matches. But it was the amateur team that started quickly over the Faldo course by losing only two matches from the opening 8 games. Ahmed Al Musharrekh halved with Young in the lead game, victories followed from Dan Hendry, Craig Forrest, John Fellingham, Xander De Wet and a further half point from amateur captain Miki Mirza started their fight back. Calum Nicol and Dong Lee made it three wins out of three with emphatic triumphs. Three consecutive wins from match eleven by Ariel Ignacio, Abdalla Al Musharrekh and Alex Charawani levelled the overall score at 14.5 to 14.5 with 3 matches left on the course. Mclaughlan and Smith held their nerve to secure the tenth win from the Professionals in this prestigious trophy. | DUBAI GOLF TROPHY 2011 23rd September 2011

15: The Mixed Season Opener 2011 | Captains & Vice Captains 2011 -2012

17: The Mixed Season Opener took place with the Emirates Golf Club membership welcoming new captains Mike Sim and Caroline Jones officially into office. The day started with the annual drive-ins from the first tee of the Majlis course. Over 108 competitors and staff witnessed Captain Sim hit his tee shot 206 yards and Lady Captain Caroline Jones was more satisfied with her attempt of 187 yards. Fran Cole guessed accurately on Mike's yardage to claim a prize and Christine Sargent did likewise for Caroline's drive. The chosen format was 'Par is your friend', teams of four played their own ball in a strokeplay format, with all 4 scores counting on each hole. However to aid pace of play for the 27 team strong field the tournament condition meant competitors could not have a worse score than net par. The format, used in the Omega Dubai Desert Classic Pro-Am, was introduced for the first time and resulted in competitors unsure of what a good score would be. It turned out that 26-under par was the mark with 3 teams grouped on the same score. A back nine count back crowned the team of Paul Byrne, Maura Duggan, Frank Duggan and Rory McDonald winners as a result of being 15 under on the back nine. In runners up place, 12-under on the back nine, was the quartet of Alan Salem, Soumaya Argui, Jatinder Chopra and Rabih Sfeila. On 10-under for the inward half and in third place were Dick Purchase, Chris Purchase, Surender Kandhari and Jasjeev Kandhari. Nina Larm won both nearest the pins for the ladies on the 7th and 11th holes. Jatinder Chopra and Johnny Aldridge won the nearest the pins on the 4th and 15th respectively. | Mixed Season Opener October 7th 2011 | Winning Team

26: Carolyn and Nigel Thompson triumphed in a four-hole play off to win the Emirates Mixed Amateur Open Supported by Al Dobowi over David Gowans and Jocelyn Lirio. Carolyn Thompson sealed victory with an unbelievable 50 foot putt on the fourth play off hole. With the pin at the back of the green she was left with a swinging putt from left to right and down hill which found the bottom of the cup for a winning birdie. Going into the final round the Thompsons found themselves five shots of the pace set by the junior pairing of Jack Duguid and Elesha Dunn. Following their opening 73 over the Faldo course they were also four shots adrift of Lirio and Gowans. On their home course, the Majlis, the Thompsons felt at ease and managed to card a 6-under par 66, posting the clubhouse lead at 6-under. Gowans and Lirio needed to par the famous 18th hole but unfortunately took 4 shots from the side of the green to force a sudden death playoff. The pairings matched each other stroke for stroke in the tricky Greensomes format and crunch 10-foot putts over the first three playoff holes took them to the par three fourth where Carolyn Thompson holed the majestic 50 foot putt for the prestigious title. Gowans and Lirio had to settle for runners-up place, the third time during the 18 years of the Championship. The 2002 champions Tony and Chris Hutchinson produced an impressive performance to follow their opening 75 with a 2-under 70 to clinch third place on a 145 tally. Also on that mark was the duo of Dalip Tripathi and Nina Watson, they settled for fourth after a final round count back. The best gross of the day came from another Emirates Golf Club pairing, Anand Lakhiani and Viv Caley signed for rounds of 84 and 78 to seal best gross for the 36-hole championship. Also in the prizes were Chris and Rosemary Turlik, they took home best gross for the final round, a superb 76, thirteen shots better than round one. Darren Cole and Fran Cole clinched best gross for the opening round with a six over par 79. The junior paring of Jack Duguid and Elesha Dunn went home with the best net over the Faldo course, a 68, with Maria and Lars Petre clinching best net over the Majlis with a 69. | EMIRATES MIXED AMATEUR OPEN 2011

28: Cole and Sangani on Form in BMW Medal The November BMW Monthly Medal over the Faldo course produced some high scoring with Jignesh Sangani and Darren Cole returning the best performances from the 61-strong field. Jignesh Sangani signed for the best net score of the day a 72, a one under par tally, to clinch Division A (handicap 0-10). His closest challenger was Nigel Thompson, fresh from victory in the Emirates Mixed Amateur Open a fortnight ago; he carded a level par 73 for runners-up place. A count back decided third with three players on 74, it was Darren Cole who won the count back and claimed third in the net category and best gross of the day after a 78. Anand Lakhiani was surprised to claim victory in Division B (handicap 11-20) following a 76. Bob Curtis took second after a 77 and Peter Mackenzie third on the same mark. Suresh Shewakramani won Division C (handicap 21-34) with a net 74. The 11th November also marked the launch of Simbo’s Skills Challenge sponsored by ABB. Club Captain Mike Sim has designed an Emirates Golf Club version of ‘Big Break’, a skills challenge contest over the season to try and find the most skilful golfer at Emirates Golf Club. Round one continues in November every Friday and Saturday, those players with the best scores will progress to round 2 in January with the Semi-finals in March and the Final during Mike’s Captains day on 18th May. | BMW Medal 11th November 2011 | Clubhouse Trophy 25th November 2011 | Tech Access International Pairs 26th November 2011

37: Junior Club Championship 23rd December 2011 The windy conditions created a difficult day for the competitors in the Junior Club Championship over the Majlis course. This however caused no threat to Daniel Hendry's game, which once again topped the table in the Boys division by a remarkable six shot margin. His gross 74 was too good for his closest rival Philip Urasch. Kavita Sehmi clinched the girl's title with a solid 83. The day was enjoyed by all and Karam Sehmi fired a fantastic net 71 to take best net of the day after a card count back from Fardeen Meeran who also carded a 71.

Prem Amarnani defeated the heat wave that struck on the day by shooting an incredible 40 points to take first place; his front nine score of 21 points put him in a confident state to gain the title by 2 shots. Two players on 38 Points forced a count back placing Yasser Refai with a better score on the back nine to take second place while giving third place to Anand Kapoor. Nelly Amarnani follows his brother's footsteps by winning the division A (handicap 0-12) with a score of 37 points, who also had a 2 shot lead over the runner up Rami Safadi with 35 points. A consistent card included 6 pars, and if it wasn’t for triple bogey 7’s on the par four 9th and 18th it would have been an even more impressive tally. The Runners up spot was hotly contested with 3 players scoring 38 points, but it was Martin Uchytil taking 2nd place having beaten Alan Salem on a count back, that put them ahead of that group both scoring 39 points. Adam Walker, on holiday here from the UK clinched the best gross of the day with a 2 over par 74. | Alan Salem continued his excellent run of form with victory in the Dubai Golf Summer Series Fixture supported by Footjoy. The Montgomerie and Emirates Golf Club member fired a blistering 43 points over the Majlis course, a gross 78. On a day of low scoring over the Karl Litten designed course, Jai Bhalla and George Fitchet signed for 42 points, 6-under par, it was Fitchet who took runners-up place with a better back nine. The ladies section was also a tight contest with the Desai sisters, Shloka and Aashaka, both carding 36 points.
