2: A letter from the editors... Difficulties in our lives frighten us, but for many it's just motivation to become what we are. Just because you are different from others does not mean you are the weird, or out of place one. "Stay Gold", is the motto; stay yourself and don't change for anyone besides yourself. If you are adamant about who you are, stay yourself! Be who you are. Hey, maybe they're the different ones.

20: This book is dedicated to Johnny Cade. He was just 16 years old when he died last month after he rushed into a burning church to save children who were trapped inside. He is someone all of us can look up to for an example of bravery and heroism. Johnnycake is someone we all will never forget. | Dedication

22: Explanation of Literary Elements | Voice: The voice used in this book makes the story sound like it is really based in the 60's. Point of View: The point of view used in this story is first person. Theme: This story is all about being yourself no matter what.

23: Plot: This story follows the lives of two groups, the Socs and the Greasers, of teenage boys who were in different social and economic groups. The two groups clashed at different points in the stories. In the end, the conflict was never solved, but the groups look back on their actions and reflect on what to do next. Flashback: At the end of this story, it is revealed that the whole story is a flashback. Dialect: This story has a 60's slang dialect. Characters: This story has a good mix of both round, main, and minor characters.

24: Irony: At the beginning of the story, Ponyboy appears levelheaded, but after Johnny dies, he seems to lose sight of what is real and what isn't. Setting: This story took place in the 1960's in a large, urban town. Implied Theme: This story has an implied theme because it was not stated directly.
