Torn Textures - Page Text Content

Dec 2011: DECEMBER | We all went to Brooklyn so the new cousins could meet each other. It was a good day with pizza, a stage show, and much love and merriment.

Nov 2011: NOVEMBER | Brianna and Brian came with baby Juniper for Thanksgiving. Brian baked a spectacular cake for Erica's 16th birthday party, and they were here to help with the party, too. One day David took them to Hyde Park and the Culinary Institute. Everyone loved Juniper, who is the cutest baby ever!

Oct 2011: OCTOBER | Erica is playing soccer on a gorgeous fall day. She is number 4. AHer team did well this year. Alex is at our local farm stand visiting the corm maze and the pumpkin patch.

Oct 2011: Trick or Treat

Sep 2011: Frank and MaryAnne Grawi visited from Michigan and we had a dinner party with Bob, Pip and Ben Grawi. Gerhard came, too. We attended a festival at the Hindu Temple in Mahwah. The temple is very impressive and the food was good.

Aug 2011: AUGUST

Aug 2011: We took Alexander Schmitt to the Metropolitan Museum of Art to see a very cool sculpture called Big Bambu, which you could climb on. Alex's girlfriend Gabby, came too. We also took Alexander to the Statue of Liberty and Ellis Island.

Jul 2011: JULY | In July Alex and Erica went to camp. Erica went to her beloved academic camp at Centenary college and Alex went to an excellent media production camp at Boston University. Here he is getting settled into his dorm room. While they were away, Glenda and David joined Gerhard for a few days at Mohonk Mountain House. Later Alexander Schmitt came to see us from Germany. Glenda and Alex took him hiking at Ramapo reservation.

Jun 2011: JUNE

Jun 2011: June was a pretty exciting month, as we acquired three new family members. Juniper arrived on the 3rd, and Tihun and Solomon came from Ethiopia a week later. Eileen and Glenda came back from their Europe trip and went (with David, Alex and Erica) to Brooklyn as soon as possible to meet our new relations. Then Eileen flew to Illinois to see her granddaughter. She was the first family member to meet all three newcomers.

May 2011: Yes, The European vacation is dominating this calendar, but it was a really good trip! Here are pictures of Glenda and Eileen on the woodcarving hike in Axalp, Switzerland, and at the top of the Rothorn in Brienz. The top right picture is us starting out, which was a bit of a miracle. | MAY

Apr 2011: APRIL

Apr 2011: Eileen and Glenda saw many castles on their trip in June, but this ruin in Reutte, Austria turned out to be the most photogenic.

Mar 2011: MARCH

Mar 2011: Elisabeth Schmitt visited from Germany over spring break and we took her to Washington DC. The cherry blossoms were out, and it was very beautiful and interesting. We met up with Shelly Anderson one day. It was all very exhausting, as you can see by the Washington Monument picture. We did not even climb it!

Feb 2011: FEBRUARY | In June, Glenda and Eileen took a fabulous trip to Europe. We visited the Rattenhuber/Schmitt family in Munich; saw lots of cows, including a cow parade, in Brienz, Switzerland; and a funny egg man in Oberammergau, Germany. Glenda is in Fussen, Germany in the last picture. We also saw a lot of castles, fancy churches, beautiful scenery, ate good food and had a really good time.

Jan 2011: JANUARY

Jan 2011: The year started out with a whole lot of snow. This didn't bother Alex too much, shoveling aside, as he enjoyed his job at the local ski hill so much. One duty was to dress up as the mascot, Campgaw Chuck, an oversized woodchuck.

BC: Aunt Nita, Dana Geiss and Dana's mom, Marilyn, met us in Boston. They attended the "graduation" ceremony for Alex's summer program, and got to see all the film projects he had worked on while there. It was very impressive. Above is an artistic shot of Boston by David. To the left is Eileen in Switzerland. On the front cover; The view Eileen and Glenda had from their hotel room in Brienz, Switzerland; Aunt Lotte, Alex and Gabriela Riccardi before the Jr. Prom; Washington, D.C. over spring break.
