FC: 2010 A Year in Review

Big! | it's the little moments that make life

 California!

In January, all the Griffiths took a trip to California to celebrate Doug & Cheryl's 40th wedding anniversary. One night at dinner they even got serenaded by Hawaiian singers and Lauren helped the hula dancers, too! We also got to go to Disneyworld and Kyle even went out a few days before me to see the Longhorns play in the National Championship game!

In February, Dallas experienced the snowiest day in its history - over 12 inches! Class was canceled and we got to play in the winter wonderland. Kyle and I grabbed some coffee and went for a walk through a park near our apartment - it was so pretty! We even tried to make a snowman, but my flimsy cotton gloves couldn't do the job and I quickly gave up. The picture just shows what I was attempting to make!

For Valentine's Day Kyle and I went to a Dallas history museum. It was supposed to have a special exhibit on famous Dallas couples, but it was canceled (which made us laugh since things always seem to go wrong when it's my turn to plan a date!). However, it was still really neat learning about all the changes Dallas has gone through as a city. That year we also got homemade cards from Luke & Lauren - so sweet!

So can you tell by the photos who was the star of the show that year on Spring Break? Yep, that would be Levi! At 5 months old, he was at such a fun age and we all loved holding him and playing with him. He was in a phase of discovering his hands, and Mom sang a song about them many times during the week ("open, close them.... give a little clap"). It quickly got stuck in everyone's head, and became a running joke!

The previous year, Kyle had to leave early to return to work. Thankfully, this time he got to stay the entire time I was there! A couple of memories that stand out from that trip include: Mat & Dad falling in the water while getting in the canoe, making Thin Mint S'Mores, and the two running jokes (one was the hand song I already mentioned, and the other was a commercial that Mat and Kyle constantly quoted by saying, "Daaaad" in a silly baby voice!).

 25th Birthday!

For my birthday in April, Kyle surprised me with a night out in Addison. First we tried a new Italian restaurant, then we went and saw a play at the local theater. The play was funny, but what stands out the most about that night was one of the obnoxious audience members who was laughing SO loud that we were laughing at HER more than the actual play!

 Celebrating 3 wonderful years together...

For our anniversary, Kyle & I took a trip to San Antonio. We stayed near the Riverwalk and were in walking distance of lots of fun shops and restaurants. While there we ate at a table at Boudros that was right on the river - my first time to do that! We also went to the Alamo, ate dessert at the Rocky Mountain Chocolate Factory, visited the Guenther House (an old mill where the Pioneer brand is made) and continued the tradition of going to a game on our anniversary. We saw the San Antonio Missions play - not quite the same caliber of team as the Yankees or Red Sox (who we had seen the previous two years) but still a lot of fun!

We took a few side trips around town to go see some of the other missions besides the Alamo. Some of them were truly beautiful, and they were all full of history!

Anniversary Ballgame | 3rd Annual | This was one of the most exciting baseball games I've been to. Not only did we get on the kiss cam, we also got a ball thrown to us from a pitcher, and even almost got hit by a line drive! An added bonus was the fact that the San Antonio team was playing the Rangers' AA team, so we felt right at home! We even got to watch Martin Perez pitch, a young star in the minor league system.

Before Melissa's big day, we had a bachelorette party in August. Everyone came to Dallas for the weekend. We went to Pete's Piano Bar, got pedicures & swam in the pool... but the fun REALLY got going with the Wal-Mart scavenger hunt!

On Labor Day weekend, Kyle's parents came up to Dallas to hang out. It just so happened to be the weekend of the A&M vs Arkansas game at Cowboys Stadium, and once again, we had tickets to a suite. It ended up working out perfectly! Just like the previous year, the Aggies sadly lost - but the awesome view made up for it! | whoop! | gig 'em aggies!

M | & | B | October 24, 2010 - Melissa & Brent's wedding day! Minus my zipper almost breaking and a little difficulty lacing up the bride's dress (I had never done that before!), the day ended up nearly perfect. As the maid of honor, I had to give a speech at the reception, and even that went off without a hitch. Although there were some tears that day, there were also LOTS of smiles & laughter. It truly was a joyous occasion!

Cut the Cake! | Levi turns | one!

In mid-October, we headed to Pfulgerville to celebrate Levi's first birthday. Mat was in charge of balloons and ended up getting 50! The house was FULL of them... but thankfully, Levi loved them! | Make a Wish!

Kyle and I picked up Scout in late October. At first, he just didn't know what to think of us! When we got home, he voluntarily stayed in his crate for 30 minutes. Then, when we tried offering him treats, he would just sniff them and then turn away! He also didn't make a single peep the first 24 hours we were with him (which included a 4 hour ride home to Dallas!). He finally did warm up to us, though, and let his true playful colors show!

Pumpkin Day 2010 was a lot like the year before, except this time we had a little puppy to watch while we were carving! As always, we had a variety of pumpkin foods: roasted pumpkin seeds, pumpkin ice cream, and pumpkin ale. Ashley got the award for the most time spent carving her jack-o-lantern - but Yoda turned out great!

 Pumpkin Day

Thanksgiving 2010 was spent with the Maxeys at a house we rented in Seguin. It slept 20 people, but there were 32 of us! The house was right on the water, so we spent time fishing & canoing along with our usual favorites: playing games and catching up. A few of the girls even braved the stores for a little Black Friday shopping!

That year we had lots of little kids running around, which was so much fun! The youngest two - Landry and Levi - were now walking around and were hard to keep up with at times! Daylan, Kaiden, William and Lily had fun running from the "monster" that often chased them (aka Kyle!). One of the most exciting parts for the adults was the annual Aggies vs Longhorns game. We couldn't seem to contain our excitement and our yells woke up some of the little ones! But the Aggies ended up with a win, a great ending to any season. Because Von Miller was such a big part of the game, Amy kept saying the Aggies played "VONderful!"

For Kyle's 27th birthday, I gave him an Ipod Touch I had won at a job fair. He had recently lost his other one and was so excited! I wasn't the only one to celebrate his special day - his co-wokers at Adecco bought him a cake and decorated his desk, and we also went out to dinner with friends the next night. | In order for Kyle to get his Ipod, I made him do a scavenger hunt around our apartment!

Wishing you everything happy for your birthday! | Happy Birthday!

Dear Santa, I can explain... | Christmas was spent in Round Rock with the Ramseys. This was the first time for everyone to meet Scout, and although Lauren and Luke were scared of him at first, they ended up LOVING him! They would chase after him and get mad if he ran away. They even liked getting in his playpen.... I think because Scout couldn't get very far from them that way!

Not only did we have fun with Scout, we also loved playing with all the new Christmas toys, which included 4-wheelers, a giant doll house, and a Lightening McQueen bike (with "buttons" as requested by Luke!). It was also my first year to have a Christmas baking day where I made all kinds of goodies for hours on end! I made lemon cookies, cinnabon popcorn, gingerbread s'mores and coconut bites - just to name a few!

 love and joy!
