 Minden Family Album 2011

2011 Blizzard We received 14 inches of snow on February 1st in blizzard fashion. Another 8 inches fell a week later. The kids were out of school for nine straight days! The snow drifts were as high as 4 feet around our house.

It was a great snow for sledding, especially on the new portion of Elm street that wasn't open yet!

 Building Snowmen

President's Honor Roll First Semester - 4th grade

 Maui, Hawaii...February 2011

 The Road to Hana

We went on a snorkeling and whale watching cruise one morning (barely, as we almost missed our boat!) It was amazing to see the gigantic mother whales with their new babies as we traveled to our snorkeling area. We snorkeled at the Molokini crater and Turtle town. The fish were colorful and Nick got very close to a sea turtle. Definitely a favorite from the trip!

Travel and change of place impart new vigor to the mind. Seneca | PLCA Convention Banquet Sawyer Brown was the entertainment that evening, and we danced to every song!

Our resort - The Ritz Carlton - Kapalua | Surfing lessons! | One of the views from the walking trail near our resort - loved the scenery and watching the whales offshorre | A stop on the scenic drive just down from our resort.

 Spring Break | Srp

We spent 3 days in Kansas City for Spring Break, including two nights at the Great Wolf Lodge. Loved the waterpark!

Nothing Is So Beautiful As Spring | The 'girls' spent a day shopping, including a stop at the American Girl store. Paige and Lauren's dolls had their hair done and everyone got a new outfit. It was such a fun place to visit. Then Katie and Lauren took us to Charming Charlie's - we loved it!

The Road to the Final Four came through Tulsa in 2011! First and second round games were held at the BOK center and we were very excited the Jayhawks played here. Nick and Lynn went to Friday's games and the boys joined us on Sunday. In an attempt to sit together for the Kansas game (second game of the day) on Sunday, Nick asked exiting Texas fans if they had any ticket stubs we could use. After many 'no' answers, he found a lady who had tickets she hadn't even used. They were on the 2nd row right behind the Illinois bench! It was awesome! And we got to see a Joyhawks victory!

Fire Basketball Salvation Army League Champs Drew joined several of his soccer teammates on the Fire basketball team. He was a great point guard!

Spring 2011 was the final season for the '97/98 Fire team, and they went out on a high note. They took first place in the Lexus Cup competitive tournament and soundly beat the St. Thomas Knights team that had previously had the upper hand. Though their quest for a state championship fell short, it was a stellar season. They are a great group of young men.

 Spring 2011 | '97 Fire Soccer

A family is pieced together with hope and faith. A family is quilted and bound with love and grace. | '00 Fire Spring 2011 | 1st Place - Broken Arrow Spring Rec Tournament 2nd place - Green Country Rec+ League

 Destin, Florida July 2011

We were excited to return to the Florida Panhandle and enjoy the clear water and sandy beaches. Though it was a great trip, it was a vacation of challenges. We got a speeding ticket on the drive there, and Nick and Drew were both sick when we arrived. The clear water we remembered was full of moss and 'June grass' which you would find in your swimswuit after swimming. Our crab hunting missions were a bust and our rented pontoon boat broke down shortly after leaving the dock. *sigh* | Paige LOVED being buried in the sand!

Despite the challenges, we enjoyed snorkeling in Destin harbor, building sandcastles, driving go-carts and eating some fabulous seafood while we were there! | Kayaking in Destin harbor during our snorkeling trip. It was the first time the kids had snorkeled and they loved it!

Waiting to eat at the Red Bar Restaurant

We ate dinner at The Village of Baytown Wharf one night and they had several activities to choose from. These are what our kids picked!

Live to Skate | Swamp tour on the Pearl River.

On our way home from Florida, we stopped for a day in New Orleans. The highlight was a swamp tour where we saw some huge alligators! We also visited the World War II museum and visited the French Quarter (in the rain!) | Paige wearing the mask she chose, Drew in his new fedora and Nick and Lynn in front of St. Louis Cathedral, French Quarter

Ready to open presents! | For his friends' party, they went to see the movie "Warrior" then came to our house for swimming! | Drew turns 11! | Cookie Cake!

At the Park | On Labor Day Weekend, the weather was beautiful after a summer with record-breaking heat. So we decided to go to the zoo (the boys, however, weren't interested). When we arrived at the zoo the line just to park was 30 minutes long, so we opted for the park instead.

Paige turns 7! | Paige's birthday was on a busy Thursday night, but we fit in a shake at Steak and Shake to celebrate. The following weekend, Aunt 'Chelle hosted a family party for Paige and Lynn!

Make a Wish! | Friends party at Purple Glaze with her SuperStars teammates

Fall Soccer Season 2011 | SuperStars | Tied for 1st place in league | 2nd place - BA Fall Tournament | Lily, Jessica, Kandace, Ari, Paige and Samantha

Nationals '00 Red | In their first season as a competitive team, Nationals '00 Red proved they were ready to play. They won their league, lost in the semis of the Blitz tournament and took home the Championship at the Celtic Cup in Norman in an exciting overtime win over Mansfield Samba that was one of the most exciting games ever! | Front row: Zach C., Jake, Drew, Noah, Zayne and Scott. Back Row: Coach Nick, Kolton, Jared, Zach W., Zach T., Ethan, Andrew, Austin, Conner, Coach David and Coach Steve.

Kyle made the move to competitive and made the Blitz '98 Red team, along with former Fire teammates Erik, Riley and Zarius. They finished first in their league. Back Row: Erik, Christian (Pie), Riley, Braden, Dominic, Z, Alex, D'Angelou, Buddy, Jaelon, Coach Dave.

Drew and Paige were both recognized in November for their great work at school. Drew made the Principals' Honor Roll for straight A's and Paige received the cooperation award! | Good Job!

 Christmas Eve 2011

Presents Presents and more Presents | Santa Was Here!

It was another blessed Christmas at our house. Everyone got what they had wished for....a gun for Kyle, IPod touch for Drew and a new American Girl doll named Kanani for Paige. Even Mom and Dad must have been good this year, since Mom got a new Ihome and Dad a Kindle Fire. But we remember that our biggest blessing is the birth of our Savior, Jesus Christ, that we celebrate on this day!

Celebrating with Family | New hoodlies for the boys from the Rottinghaus's. | Lauren LOVED her ladybug hat from the Hartmans! | Dancing to the new Muppets CD

We celebrated with Larry and Tena/Grandpa and Mimi on December 17th at the clubhouse at Shangri-La. We played games, opened gifts and had a wonderful meal together with them, the Hartmans and the Rottinghaus's
