FC: A Day in the Life of Charlie the Stutterer By:Chelsea Anderson, Mickel Bryan, Nicole Buckley, and Lindsey DelSignore
Today is Charlie's first day of Kindergarten. Ms. Smith asks all of the students to stand up and introduce themselves in front of the class.
After all the other students introduced themselves, it was finally Charlie's turn. Charlie stood up hesitantly, and said, "Hi, I'm Ch-Ch-Ch-Charl-l-lie." All of the kids in the class burst into laughter. Charlie lowered his head in embarassment.
Throughout the school day, none of Charlie's classmates would talk to him because of his stutter. At recess, Charlie had to play by himself. As a group of boys walked by him, he heard them making fun of him by saying, "Ch-Ch-Ch-Charl-l-lie."
At the end of the day, Charlie goes home and tells his mom about the kids making fun of his stuttering. His mother decides that it's becoming more of a problem and puts him in speech therapy.
Charlie soon goes to see a Speech Therapist. They play games together while working on his vocabulary, rate of speech, tongue positioning, and overall self-esteem issues.
After working with the Speech Therapist, Charlie's mother notices a huge improvement in his speaking abilities. She noticed that Charlie is not stuttering as much as he used to and that his conversational skills have improved.
After working with the Speech Therapist, Charlie has show and tell in his Kindergarten class. He brings in his favorite "choo choo" train. He gets through the entire presentation without stuttering once and his classmates don't make fun of him any longer. Overall, Charlie has made a lot more friends and is happy he doesn't stutter anymore thanks to the Speech Therapist.
