FC: The Fabulous Life of Amelia Earhart
Me as a child.. wasn't I cute? I lived with my granparents early on, then my parents once i was 10. I saw my first airplane in 1908, but did not realize I wanted to fly till 1920. | I was born July 24, 1897 in Atchison, Kansas.
I became interested in flying when I took my first plane ride when I was serving as a nurse in WWI. Ijust knew that I had to fly.
Whenever I first suggested the idea, many people said "horsefeathers!" But I was determined. | It wasn't a total pushover, but I proved everyone who said I couldn't was full of bunk. | After the flight, I earned the nickname "Lady Liny." I was so happy that I accomplished my goal! | I was the first woman to fly solo across the Atlantic. I was so nevous that I almost upchucked.
Some of my other important acomplishments include setting the woman's altitude record at 14,000 feet, first woman to fly coast to coast, and many various speed records.
Just when I had become the big cheese of the flying world, my plane was tragically lost in attempt to fly around the world.
My contributions were important to this era because I proved that women can do anything men can do, if not better!
