2: Swimming was a popular sport to watch and compete in. Some of the heroes in the sagas wore their armour and competed in the swimming competitions. | Running, often carrying a load, jumping, skating, skiing, and horse racing were also popular. Tests of physical strength such as weight lifting were enjoyed as well. "Skin- pulling" was a form of tug -of-war, that used animal skin instead of rope.

3: Warriors would train with weapons during their leisure time. Fighting with swords and shields, throwing spears and stones and shooting with bows and arrows were all popular. All these events helped to hone the skills of all who were expected to fight for their King or Chief, and if he was present, would encourage favor with their leader.

5: The most popular board game was chess. Other games that were played still exist today. For example, knucklebones was a form of jacks.

6: Singing and music were other skills thatt kept them entertained. Dancing existed as well and would be performed to the singing.

7: The most popular musical instruments were the harps ,lyres, whistles, horns, and many more. | The Rebec, a violin type instrument, seems to have first appeared in the late tenth or early eleventh century.

8: Storytelling was popular and gave great entertainment. Many stories have been passed down by word of mouth, but a few has been recorded. Beowulf is a great example of a famous story that has been passed down.
