Weapons and Warfare by: Kenneth Green

Anglo-Saxon warfare spans from the 5th Century to the 11th in England.

A Common weapon was the spear. It was made with a seven foot long ash shaft and an iron head.

The swords blade was about 72 to 80 cm. long and about 7.5 cm. broad at there widest point. There was a grove down the middle to make the sword lighter but not loose its strength.

There shields were made of wood with a metal center. They wore chain mail to protect against enemy swords.

They made shield walls to protect against the launching of missiles, standing slightly out of range of each other.

Then individual warriors would run forward from the ranks to gain velocity for there javelin throw.
