1: Mark Twain (Samuel Clemens) was born in 1845 to John Marshall and Jane Clemens in Hannibal, Missouri. His father died when he was young and he became a printer’s apprentice.

2: Mark Twain had been a riverboat pilot and a journalist but joined a confederate militia in 1861 just as the civil war started. Mark Twain then went West and became a gold miner, before kick starting his career by going to Hawaii and writing The Celebrated Jumping Frog of Calaveras County, about his experiences as a gold miner.

3: Mark Twain’s most famous books include Tom Sawyer and Huckleberry Finn and even his own Autobiography! | Mark Twain also includes wit and humor in his writing along with social satire. Mark Twain has been called one of the most important writers in American history.

4: Mark Twain moved to Connecticut in 1870 when he married Olivia Langdon and had four children. Then in 1909 his daughter Jane died of a seizure. Mark Twain died in 1910 and was buried next to his children and wife.
