FC: Buddhism By: Antonio Winston

Its December 26,2005 in my home land. My family and I are Buddhist from Thailand. The time was 00:58:50 UTC when my mom sent me off to school when I heard loud screams and yells for help. Then behind it was waves crashing and the ground wouldn't stop moving. The police men told us to run home when we got to school, if we find any of our family members. I couldn't find my mom anywhere. But I made it home safely. My name is Dexter Kietonio

The tsunami killed many people in my home land. It destroyed many homes and buildings here and all over Asia.

January 5, 2005 The next month they were looking for missing people she was pronounced dead. Me and my little brother had to move in with our grand parents. April 10, 2005 Today is the Buddhist new year. We celebrate the first three days from the first full moon day in April. May 20, 2005 Happy Vesak! Today is Vesak which is most important festival in Buddhism. We celebrate the enlightenment and death of Budda in a single day.

July 15, 2005 The Kathina ceremony was held today to show the conclusion of the three month rains retreat season.

June 3, 2005 This is the saddest day of my life. Today is the funeral of my mother. In our religion we believe that consciousness survives physical death and following an internal(bardo), rebirth will usually take place. It really surprised me that so many people knew my mom. My family and friends continued with the funeral with offerings and and invocations.

Reading of the text, and poetry, and extracts from literature. Which was done by my grandfather. Collective chanting, recitation, and hymn singing was done by my grandmother. Silent meditation was conducted by my uncles. Lastly, we do personal rituals such as reading cards, laying flowers and lighting candles. I think the world has taken the most warm hearted and caring soul from me and my brother. My mom

The disaster that occurred on December 24 took up by surprise. I think that this taught the whole world not to take life for granted. It will take Thailand and the continent of Asia to rebuild but we're a strong group of people that will stand by each other until the job is done.
