2: On February 26th, 1972 it rained and rained. The weather was called normal. Four days earlier, the dam was called "satisfactory" by a mine inspector.

3: At 8:05 on February 26th, one dam collapsed, the 132 gallons of black waste water broke the other 2 dams and rushed onto 16 mining communities in Buffalo Creek Hollow. The water was 30 feet high in some places.

4: The water left 125 dead, 1,000 injured, and 4,000 homeless. 1,000 cars and trucks were destroyed. The property damage was estimated at 50 million dollars.

5: By 10 am, the flood was emptying into the Guyandottle River at Man. By 11, the water was gone, but everywhere it had been was destroyed.
