FC: Hunter-Servidio Family 2010
Life brings simple pleasures to us every day. It is up to us to make them wonderful memories. CathyAllen
2010 was a busy year. It started with Brian and I separating, then Travis Tritty Kitty died, and we adopted Fang, went to Disney and Great Wolf Lodge, visited South Carolina several times, and spent a lot of time at Nina's, the Stanley's, Busch Gardens, and the Monkey Park. Our summer was great and neither of us wanted to start school in the fall. Finally, we had an interesting combination of visits for the holidays, we found out Kitty Girl had cancer, and Brian left Empire Today. Some moments were bad, but we are all doing much better now and are looking forward to the new year.
2010 began with snow and ended with snow. Emily really didn't remember playing in the snow before this year, so she said it didn't count. Either way, it was beautiful and messy! We got 14 inches Christmas night and it kept us from going to SC for an extra two days. Lucky for me that Brian taught her to throw snowballs at me!
Let It Snow, Let It Snow, Let It Snow!
 Emily's 30 Pound Party
Emily finally made it to 30 lbs. this year and we threw a party complete with cupcakes, ice cream, and GIFTS! Donna and I gained 30 lbs. and Emily ran off all the calories before leaving that day...life just isn't fair!
Nina took us to Disney this Spring for 5 days and it was awesome! It was Emily's first time on a plane and bus. She traveled like an old pro, much to our surprise. We are already planning a trip for Sea World for next Spring. I have to say the Disney folks really know how to make you feel special...and broke! The trip was easily the best I have ever taken, due to wonderful travel companions, a great destination, and a beautiful room! Having a mini-zoo outside was wonderful. Thanks, Nina!
We managed to take in the Magic Kingdom three times, the Animal Kingdom once, and the shopping-shower once (we almost drowned and froze at the same time, but we scored some awesome girly legos, sexy rain ponchos, and wonderful Christmas tree ornaments). Emily's favorite part was the Magic Lights parade because the characters all waved at her. Our overall favorite experience was the safari where we chased off poachers. We also made sure we rode the Pirates of the Caribbean and the jungle boat ride several times. Then we moved over to Tomorrowland to ride the race cars again before buying monster PJ's.
To get ready for the Easter holiday, we went to the park for the big egg hunt, to ride horses, play on the inflatables, and pet the pigs and rabbits (of course!).
 Chesapeake "Eggstravaganza"
Easter at Nina's Easter this year was interesting, since Marshall, Don, and Don's son were also in attendance. Emily made sure the gentlemen had plenty to do--worship her! I almost felt sorry for those guys...they eat all that food and then have to burn it all off playing jump-rope and "jump the snake".
Busch Gardens with the Stanley's We finally got to go to the park with the Stanley's this year and it was an experience, since Andrea was pregnant and in a wheelchair. We made it to parts of the park that we've never explored before and had a great time! Poor Andrea was stuck in the chair taking pictures. Welcome to my world, Andrea!
One of the first weekends Emily went with Brian, I had several students over to help remove, paint, and reposition everything in Emily's room. It was exhausting, back-breaking, and MESSY work, but it looked great when we finished. Finally, everything matched and she loved the "spots." She still wasn't wild about sleeping in there, but she did think it was the "prettiest room in the world." One wall is dark purple and the opposite is lime green. The opposite walls are cream. There are 9 different colors used for the circles. I also installed lights on the underside of the bed. HGTV's got nothing on me!
 Bedroom Makeover
 Mommy's New Bedroom
Emily wasn't the only one to get a new bedroom- so did mommy. I wanted somewhere to lie back and remember my "happy places." There is no color in the room except white, black, and river stone. I finally have a place to showplace the quilt that Elsie "Tence" Reynolds left us. I love that quilt and like the feeling it gives me sitting at the foot of my bed each night. Someday I will pass it to Emily.
 The FC Fashion Show
Emily was partnered with Gabe for the fashion show and at first, they refused to go on stage. They eventually got used to the idea and Emily dragged poor Gabe through it. They were so cute they made it onto the nightly news. The footage was replayed several times and on the website for awhile.
The chalk walk was held at the ocean front and it was really cold and rainy. We walked in support of teachers (all the way to the Dairy Queen, where Emily, Gabe, and I had ice cream) who have influenced us throughout the years. The Teachers For Tomorrow kids did a great job on the shirts and pushing Andrea for 30 blocks.
 Chalk Walk 2010
 Our New Kitty, Fang...
Fang came from the "Cat Store" (Chesapeake Humane Society) and was one of Emily's biggest-and toothiest-gifts this year. As you can see, she made herself at home immediately.
 Artist At Work
4th of July | Emily, Brian, Donna, Al, Donna Mia, Elizabeth, Don, Betsy, Ted, and I gathered to celebrate the Claudia holiday together. Donna invented a new game called the "Pasta Toss". Betsy, Elizabeth, and I laughed our heads off! Elizabeth made salad and left it at home. Al got blamed for there not being any gas in the grill, but we later found out it wasn't his fault. We still had a great day!
 Emily's 5th Birthday Party
Aarrgh Maties! Emily and I made the cake again this year and it was a big hit, but the party almost wasn't. I accidentally put the wrong address on the invitations and the directions were wrong. Boy, were the guests mad with me! Luckily, my friends are smarter than I and made it to the party in spite of my ineptitude. This year's theme was all about being a pirate. We had treasure maps, treasure, eye patches, and lots of tattoos. We all walked the plank into the pool and had a great time playing games and eating! We had a few uninvited guests...a snake and several green tree frogs. The frogs were a big hit--the snake...not so much.
Great Wolf Lodge Need I say more? We had a great time again this year as Emily celebrated her birthday. We added golfing and rock climbing to our experiences at the lodge this year and upgraded our wand to include a lighted crystal top. She really enjoyed the "hunt" for new stuff to wave that wand at. Last year she added goggles to her swimming routine. This year she added the very attractive nose plug.
Birthday Camping at the Hunter Campgrounds
The final "party" for Emily's birthday included sleeping in the camper at Mom and Dad's. We had a ball! It was the best of both worlds.
 Pigs and Other Pets...
The Beach-Lynnhaven Pier Emily and I spent a lot of time at the beach again this year, but not as much as we did last year. Between being sick, going to the Monkey Park, and water quality issues, the beach just didn't make it onto the schedule as much. She always loves it, though. We love looking for shells and interesting things that have washed up.
Emily was very unhappy about going to school this year. She understood that she would be getting a new teacher and couldn't like it. However, it didn't take her long to decide that she loved her new teachers and classroom.
 First Day of School
We decided to go to the air show this year and it was a big hit with Emily. She wasn't interested in the planes, though. It was all about jumping on the inflatables. We could have saved a lot of time and money by just going to The Bounce House. It was a beautiful day, though, and we had a good time. | Oceana Air Show
The hippo might be yawning, but... | The Lion Sleeps Tonight
We tried Jungle Golfing for my 27th birthday this year. We had a great time, even though we only got to hit the first ball before Emily took over from there and finished up for us. | The Lion Sleeps Tonight...
 Happy Halloween 2010
As usual, Halloween is second only to birthdays (yes...Emily's birthdays) and maybe Christmas. We had several events that covered the holiday, from the carving of the pumpkin, to the pumpkin patch parade, to parties and the actual trick-or-treating..
 Pumpkin Patch Parade
 Costume Party at the Stallings'
We were ready to just pass out candy when Emily threw a curve ball. She wanted to Trick or Treat this year instead. Not only did I buy enough candy for two hours of passing out candy, but then she collected enough for three people...
 All in the Family
Part of the family... We got to meet Pat and Leo and Bruce and Beth. We fell in love with all of them. Emily is really attached to Bruce and Beth. We can't wait until they finally get moved a little closer. We are hoping to see much more of them soon.
 The Library
Emily and I spend a lot of time at our local library. It is one of our favorite places to go for rewards after school (if she gets a sticker) and get out of the heat in the summer. She loves to play on the computer, destroy the froggy hand puppet, and pick cool books! We almost always find new friends to play with while we are there. I am so happy that she loves the library as much as I do.
One Little, Two Little....Nope, Just One Little Indian! Emily was having a great Thanksgiving celebration and got a lot of use out of the hat they made in school. On Thanksgiving day, we went to see Tangled and ate a Boston Market. It was interesting, especially when Donna started to strike a pose wearing the hat...No more caffeine for her! | Thanksgiving Festivities
The Lion King at Chrysler Hall Nina and Santa got together and got 3 tickets to see the show. It was wonderful! We had such a great time! Our favorite parts were the warthog and his bodily functions, Rafiki's singing, and the "hyninas." It was a breathtaking show. The costumes and dancer-puppeteers were incredible.
 Christmas Number 1...and Counting!
Christmas number one was frustrating-for Brian, who had to put together the marble racer. Five hours and a few gray hairs later, it was together. I picker her up that night so we could make our last minute dog biscuits and food for Nina's. We put together snacks for Santa and his reindeer...and then went to sleep. Then, it was time for...
There's something under the tree! | Christmas Number Two and Counting... | Where are the reindeer snacks? | Nothing left in there!
Number three and still counting! | Just like every year, she cleaned up at Nina's! In addition to the tickets to Lion King, she got more Zhu Zhuz, Beanz, and other toys.
The Fourth and Last Christmas... We were delayed going to South Carolina by 2 days because of 14 inches of snow. We got a surprise visit from Aunt Gladys, Uncle David, and Cherie! She really cleaned up this year and was really excited by all the hoopla! She now has more Squinkies, Zhu Zhu pets, and games than a well-stocked Toys-R-Us.
Happy New Year! | and last, but not least...
