FC: Birthday Messages from Friends and Family
To my life-long partner in adventure... Well, now you've done it! You turned 40. While it's especially true in your case that "40 is the new 30", I am still looking forward to the fact that we will have the same number in front of our ages for at least a couple of years. | The last couple of decades have sped by so fast that sometimes I forget about all of the things that you and I have been through together. While there have been some emotionally trying times, I think our life together has been awesome...and I do blame you! Additionally, you are a fantastic mother. It is clear to me that you want the very best for our boys and do everything in your power to make sure that they get it. I also appreciate that you love them enough to push them to be their very best. Most importantly, above all else, I value your willingness to be my best friend. I relish every moment that I spend with you and look forward to our many future adventures. I love you. - Dave
I can't believe you made me do this twice! Frankly, I'd do it again just to see the huge smile on your face that you have after you do something fearless and crazy! | I love photos that you and I take where my hand is outstretched and we have to huddle just a little bit closer to make sure that we are both in the picture! Any chance to be near you is golden!
No one travels better than you!
You allow our children to express their individuality in some very unique ways! | You've set a great example for the boys with the frequent acts of service that you provide to others.
Mom, I think you are very cool and fun to snuggle with. Thanks for being such a good cook and taking care of me. I love you! Perry | You make the best food...especially cheese bread. I am so happy that you are my mommy. You are #1 and I love you infinity! Evan
I love you so much. You're the best parent a boy could have. I love going on vacations with you. Remember the time that we went to the Grand Canyon and we did the old man dance? That was fun! - Spencer
I was the proverbial "third wheel" on a lot of trips (Disneyland, numerous trips to Yellowstone, Aurora Colorado for the 80's music concert, etc.), Saturday adventures (Amiga Club meetings, Costco runs, SamPan lunches, etc.), and various home improvement projects at your first home. Kim always would go out of her way to make sure that I felt welcomed to tag along. I have special memories of going over to visit Kim and Spencer right after Spencer was born. I also remember Kim going with me as I was trying to find my first house and helping me decide on which house to buy. Over the years, while Kim has been a wonderful sister-in-law, she's also been a great best friend. Happy Birthday Kim! - Steve | It's difficult to think of one favorite memory involving Kim, because there has been so many fun memories. One thing that stands out, however, was how Kim nearly always tried to find a way to include me in a lot of activities after you guys got married.
When I think of Kim, what comes to mind is how welcome she has always made me feel in the Sundstrom family. From the first day I met her at Rodizio and she started talking as though Steve and I being together was a given, to the first Thanksgiving at her house where she made me feel very comfortable. When Steve and I were buying our house and I had to have Thyroid surgery, Kim was one of the first people that was at my hospital to see how things had gone, and then made sure that we had food to eat every night as we tried to move into a new house, while I recovered from my surgery. She hosted a meet the in-laws party prior to our wedding. | And since I have officially entered the family, she has always made me feel comfortable, as well making sure that the Sundstrom family is supportive of activities that Steve and I might be doing. I could tell a million other stories, but overall the best thing about Kim is that I know I can always count on her. - Jill
I remember coming to the Holt house for the first time, and there were two cute little girls who were so welcoming and excited that their big brother had a girlfriend! They always made me feel so special because I was “older and so mature” (according to an 11 and 7 year old!), and since I didn’t have any younger sisters, they became my little sisters right then and there. I remember when I found out I was expecting our first baby, Kim was so excited. Kim, Kari, and Grandma Holt went and bought me a blue maternity shirt, and were always asking questions and trying to help me prepare for the big day. Then after Jen was born, Kim was always willing to go the extra mile making sure Jen and I were taken care of. We would run errands and go shopping together. It was always an adventure and we had a blast (even though we didn’t have much money to spend)!! We loved listening to songs on the radio. | As I think back on some of my earliest and most cherished memories of Kim, the most vivid ones were when Rodger and I were dating and then first married.
I always knew as Kim got older that she would be a success at whatever she did. She had this drive and determination that I always admired. And a heart of gold!! She always tried to do nice things for the people she loved. Kim is one of the most vivacious, quick witted, adventurous people I know. She is such an AMAZING mom and her love of her family is so very apparent. She always seems to have everything under control and things don’t seem to rattle her. Talented, classy, hard working – she makes all she does seem so easy. Her focus and perseverance in her running and her life is so motivating and really shows her commitment to whatever her goal is that she wants to achieve. Both Rodger and I are so very proud of her. We are so very appreciative of her inclusiveness and kindness to our family. Our kids all think she is such a “cool” Aunt and we are grateful for her support in the big events in our lives. We love you Kim! You are amazing and so wonderful! We wish you only the best that life has yet to offer! YOU GO GIRL!!!! Love, Jackie
Happy Birthday! It seems crazy that ten years have passed since your last big birthday bash at Chili’s. At the time, “30” seemed so old and now it’s come and gone for me too. With all of your races and fun vacations, you seem to be getting younger rather than older. | I wish I could remember the stories of our childhood with more clarity because it seems like the ones that are re-told on our behalf involve me forcing you into the crack between the bed and the wall or you stretching out my shoes. My very earliest memory is an important one. I remember standing on the platform above the baptismal font at the temple and watching Mike baptize you. I remember this specifically because I kept my eyes open during the prayer and thought I was very sneaky to do so. Strangely, I don’t remember the celestial room when our family was sealed but the image above the baptismal font is clear.
Unfortunately for you, you always end up in the hospital ER with me as well. I remember how scared I was the night I had my terrible nose bleed. Mom and dad weren’t home. I remember you sitting next to me on the floor in the blue bathroom and holding my hair. Even at the hospital, John and Mike couldn’t stay in the room with me, but you never left my side. I was crying and scared and I’m guessing you might have been a little freaked out too. Despite being very young yourself, you were calm and kept us all together. Even as an adult, you were always one of the first on site whenever I ended up in the ER.
I also remember how excited I was to watch you get ready for the Christmas dance when you were in high school. I thought your dress was so beautiful, ivory silk with a long lace flat front collar, (it was the 80’s after all). I loved the pink rose corsage you wore and was thrilled when I got to wear the same dress to my Christmas dance several years later. It’s funny how quickly these memories trigger other memories, but I think Dave is expecting a word count limit so I better save up some stories for the next big birthday. I love being part of each other’s lives and big events! We all love the “Chum-Chum” family. Happy, happy birthday . . . I hope you enjoy and revel in your 40’s and that the next ten years brings you all the happiness you deserve! Much love, Kari
Never Give Up | Only one way to stay warm... RUN!
During the last year and a half that I have gotten to know you, I have seen you try Bikram yoga, go hiking, initiate inappropriate conversations with random strangers, and test the Salt Lake tattoo market. You have also traveled to Europe, camped in the Grand Canyon, and run a marathon. All this time, I just assumed you were naturally spontaneous and adventurous. But now I realize how old you are and that you are simply trying to fit as much new stuff in as possible during the short time you have left. Let me guess, is skydiving next? It all makes sense! I'll leave the sentimental messages for others. Just know that I am sincerely glad to have you as my favorite cousin, dating consultant, and friend. And always remember this quote from Hunter S. Thompson: "Life should not be a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in a pretty and well preserved body, but rather to skid in broadside in a cloud of smoke, thoroughly used up, totally worn out, and loudly proclaiming “Wow! What a Ride!’” Happy birthday! - Tom Hickenlooper
Happy Birthday Kim!!! I hope you have a great 40th birthday. We have known each other for a long, long time and I am so glad I have had you for a friend for all these years. I know we don't have the chance to see each other much, but I always know that we will be friends, time and distance won't change that. Thanks for always being my friend. I think you are an amazing person. Love, Janet
Kim, You have been a great friend to me, and I appreciate you and your generous and loving spirit. When I think of you, I think of your laugh, it is imprinted in my brain, and your laughter and fun personality is one of the things that drew me to you. I used to love to hang out with you, and wish that our lives weren't so crazy, so that we could be closer. I am so impressed what a wonderful mother and wife that you are! Thanks for being my friend! Happy 40th birthday! I hope you have a fantastic day, you deserve it! Laura Garner-Jones
Happy 40th Birthday Kim!!! You are an amazing woman! I look up to you in so many ways! You are such a wonderful friend and I am so glad we are still friends even 20 years after high school. Sooo...I tried to find some old pictures with you and I in them but the pickings were slim....but this one made me smile!! Do you remember that dance? Do you remember we traded dresses for that dance? Fun times!! Anyway.....thanks so | much for putting up with me all these years. I am grateful for you!! Thanks for making me laugh and smile. I love your outlook on things!! Hope you have a WONDERFUL birthday. Sounds like Dave has lots of fun plans for you guys!! Love, Trish
You have taught and encouraged me to do so many things I would have never tried without your example and inspiration. You showed me how to reach out and create connections and friendships. I relied on this after I moved. When I felt unsure about meeting people and creating new friendships my mantra became, "I need to be more like Kim." Your culinary skills and always trying new recipes motivated me to try new things. You are again now influencing and changing me and my family’s life for the better with eating healthier and being more physically fit. I would be much less of a person without your friendship and example. I adore you. Thank you for being a wonderful friend. - Shelby | Happy Birthday Kim!! You are always so much fun to be with. I love your sense of adventure. I admire your devotion and willingness to help your family and friends.
Kim, you're the most generous person I know. Generous with your time, your talents, your home and with your AMAZING iron chef skills! We have been the lucky recipients of your constant kindness and generosity and for that I am so grateful. You make me want to be better and that's what being friends is all about . . . bringing out the best in each other. Thank you for that. Happy 40th! - Jodi Ross | You are one of the zaniest, funnest, coolest people I know. I'm so glad I met you at Crossfit, ran the Dirty Dash with you, and suffered beside you through some pretty tough workouts (as you cracked crazy jokes!). Happy 40th, Kim! May you have many more wonderful, blessed years! - Laurie
It is easy to talk about and describe Kim! Kim is simply one of the most generous, giving, caring, and fun to be around people that I have ever come across. She also is the one that exhibits these attributes while going the extra mile to downplay her contributions and build up others. Some of Wendy’s and my favorite memories are playing games and hanging out in the Sundstrom back yard. What a host!! | You also can not talk about Kim without mentioning her sense of humor. When you gather or are in the company of Kim you will notice that people gravitate towards her and enjoy listening and interacting with her. Happy Birthday Kim!!!! I hope I’m always lucky enough to have you as a friend. - Alan
 Kim, | We Love You!
