S: The Adventures of Elder Wouden

BC: Welcome Home Elder Wouden

FC: Elder Daniel R. Wouden Honduras, Comayaguela Misson Aug 19, 2009 - Sept 1 2011 | RETURN WITH HONOR

There once was a boy named Daniel Robert Wouden. His family loved him very much and he loved them, but he loved God more and he decided to follow His call and serve a mission. So Daniel sent in his papers!

The call came just after Dan's 19th Birthday on April 21, 2009. He filled up the living room with friends and family.

The First Presidency asked him to serve in the Comayaguela, Honduras Mission! No one guessed he would go there! Daniel would have to learn how to speak Spanish, teach the gospel and to take care of himself!

Dan chose to go through the Salt Lake Temple. Richard G. Scott was in our session and everyone was so excited to shake his hand.

After a few preparations, he was ready to go! We had the biggest send off party on August 16, 09!

Dan gave a great farewell address. Everyone was impressed with his spiritual strength.

His family dropped him off at the MTC on Aug 26, 09!

Aug 31, 2009 (1st letter) I love you guys so much and miss you. The second day I got here the branch presidency came into my class and we had to bear our testimony, tell about our family, and why we wanted to serve. They choose me to be the district leader... I am really trying to be obedient and learn the gospel. I have learned how to testify and pray in spanish already!!! This place is great. Is our boat working? Tell the girls I love them all so much and miss them. . Tell dad... he is a great man. Again this place is AWESOME, but the food is no beuno. Thanks for the dearelder letters those help me alot and make me cry. I learned how much I love my family... Love you guys so much and hope everything is well. It is tough here and the days feel so long, the past couple days have been the longest days of my life. Love you again and tell family friends and grandparents to write. LOVE, Elder Wouden | Elder Wouden loved the MTC, but missionary work was hard. He met a lot of new friends and worked even harder

Sept 8, 2009 Hey I need Ties from grandpa. The mtc is still doing great, The other day we as a district got to go the the RC. Its were you call people and make sure they got their free stuff, or take inbound question calls, or do chats on the web. I called all these people in the south, like florida georgia, etc.. They were always nice and listened it was amazing. I got 3 people to meet with the missionaries. The funny thing was I kept on talking like them while on the phone, I would have there accent. The other peope in my district laughed so hard every time they heard me do it. I have been going to the RC in my free time since I enjoy it so much. We had a fireside on the power of prayer. I hope I can thank the people that converted our fore fathers one day. Right when I got back to my dorm I read the family stories you left me. The one about opa rally hit me and was so cool to read since we just had a talk about prayer. This place has made me realize how much my family really means to me.

After a few months learning Spanish and the Gospel at the MTC, he got on an airplane and flew to another country far, far away. His family came to the airport to see him off

After a long flight, he was in a different country. A place he would call home for 2 years.

Nov 2,09- Hello Family,Honduras is great. I got called to serve in the Jesus de Ottoro mission, it's 5 hours out of The capital. When we reached our final destination everyone's bags came, except mine. I had to wear the same clothes for 3 days, my garments turned green on the third day. My companios name is Elder Chamay. He is 5 feet tall and very very obedient. He is from Guatemala. Jesus de Ottoro is so so poor. All the roads are dirt and rock. The house I am living in is nice compared to them. It is all tile and even has a toilet and a shower. There is not washer or dryer, we have to wash our clothes outside on this little cement block. It is burning hott here. And my area is the size of the Salt Lake Valley, about. I have to hike up the side of the mountain to get to some members houses. It rains frequetly and the roads turn into riversI Probably hsould of got boots. The little chapel and branch we have here is 80 members strong and growing. I am loving it despite all the hardships. They use limperias here, it 20 to 1. I am just loving it and trying to learn the spanish language. The people all want to be taught and are very kind. My companion does not speak a lick of English. | Daniel arrived in Honduras without his luggage, but he got to serving right away.

He loved the greenery of Honduras and the humble, hard working people

Daniel worked hard to serve the people and to share the good news of the Gospel

Feb 1-My Eglish is horrible right now. The gringo Eders make fun of me.We had 5 dates for babtism this month but I believe all of them fell through, except one. I am really growing a testimony of how inspired our leaders are. Te world needs better parents, the parents do not know how responsible for they are for their childern. I am glad that you were hard on me at times, like always calling me and just nagging hahaha it helped me out alot.

We had 2 baptisms this week, and 3 the next. We are going to baptize every week this month. The President is using us as examples for every one. Its pretty nice but to be honest I feel like I didn't do anything, it was all our Heavenly Father. Please read the scriptures. I wish I read them more before my mission. They are here to help us. Aug 9, 10 | Bringing his brothers and sisters into the waters of baptism

Hermano Hector got baptized. He is such a awesome person. After his baptism he gave his testimony, wow I was completely shocked, he is so converted to the gospel. Hector was really a chosen person from the Lord. I am so happy and thankful with the lord for letting me find and teach his chosen people. -April 11, 11 | We had another baptizm. The spirit was so strong, I have never felt the spirit so strong in a baptizm. A young women named Tania was baptized, she was crying very hard after and shared her testimony which was owow, She said how she knew this was only the beginning and how all her family has regected her because of this decision in her life. I know she will be a member forever- Aug 23, 10

Jun 13, 2011 This week has been completely exhausting. With one of our investigators we decided to make baleadas, they are like burritos, to make enough money to pay for her wedding. We made a 130 baleadas. We made the baleadas with this sister so that she would treasure her marriage. A lot of times the missionaries just pay for everything but I want this family to stay active and strong in the church after I go. On Sunday we had a lot of investigators in church, wow only 40 people can fit in the church, we had 67. This coming Saturday we are going to baptize 4 people, Fany, Rosa, Johana and Axel. I am so excited,

Rosa and Fany were baptized and then we performed a marriage in their family It is such a great feeling to help a family become eternal. I can see how the families help each other reach their goals and just always motivate each other. I do not know how I would of made it through my life if I didnt have the support from my family. it rightously June 27, 2011

Familia Guden, thats how they pronouce our last name. It was so great to talk to Oma on Monday. I really hope that she can have faith in the plan of salvation so that she can be happy. Today we went fishing, Honduran style. It was really fun we ate a lot of meat and food. We were on a private ranch that had every kind of fruit that you can think of with every kind of animal. - Feb 14, 11 | On "P" Days there was time for a little fun!

The family talked to Elder Wouden on the phone on Mother's Day. He told us that the night before his compaion bailed ship. He somehow , during the middle of the night, got the keys to unlock the doors out from underneath Daniel's Pillow. He walked to the bus station and got a one way ticket home. Poor Daniel woke up to no companion and not sure what to do! | May 23, 11- Here are some pictures. One was when we were cleaning a swimming pool with my companion that escaped and lastly the activity that we had in the church house.

Daniel made some wonderful memories, learned a lot about the gospel and himself, and served well.
