FC: Dominican Republic 2011 | Yet another adventure of a lifetime!
Life brings simple pleasures to us every day. It is up to us to make them wonderful memories. CathyAllen
Surprise turquois paradise trip 7/5/11 - 7/11/11 Our summer trip started as a surprise. No one but Lech, Carol & Cale knew where we were going. The kids asked questions each Sunday in an effort to figure it out. We gave random hints that really didn't help them. Claire finally figured it out with a Google search using hints of what activities we could do: deep sea fishing, island cruise, snorkling, scuba diving, white water rafting and jeep tours. That was two days before we left! We traveled from Little Rock to Punta Cana, Dominican Republic by plane. Roads from airport to resort were good. Resort was beautiful: 850 rooms, five restaurants. We knew right away that we were in paradise and that it was going to be a great week.
Tanner was qute the beach bum. He proved to be a great fisherman, a good snorkler, and zoo keeper!
"It's all about the pictures," Jessica says. Here we are, posing for the family picture in Dominican Republic. Serious at first, trying to get a good shot and then BAM! there we are, acting a-fool! We save the best shot for last! | So, it took Lech awhile to losen up. We jump, he stands. After awhile he's the one yelling "jump" when the camera is ready!
Of course, they were the loveliest couple on the beach!
And the best picture of the family is THIS ONE! (look at Tyler's face)! | Woah!!!
Tanner tried his hand at trapeze flying. After being harnessed up they sent him up the ladder and on the swing. He hung by his knees and then flipped off just like a circus pro!
What the heck was I thinking! | Woo hoo!
One day at the beach a couple of guys showed up with a monkey. Tanner befriended it and they took some pictures - which they happily sold us for $35.00. The next day they had a boa constrictor. Same gig. We were on to them by then!
Tyler and Tanner decided to try the 'cross-dressed swamp monster' look out for size. | Not so good!
Not to be outdone by the guys with the snake and monkey and the circus folks, the boys did their best olympic flips on the beach!
You can't have a beach trip without the classic wave splash down pictures. | I think these are actually in reverse order! Duh.
All of our little chickens on the beautiful beaches of the Dominican Republic!
Happiness is a tropical paradise, the kids & Cale around us and a beautiful sunset! After that, everything else doesn't matter
Don't let the smiles fool you, Tanner went down! | This isn't going to end well...
Check out the dude in the speedo and the beached whale behind him! | Say whaaaat?
 There's that million dollar smile!
Lech and I would get up early in the mornings and go walking on the beach. It's so quiet and uncrowded at that time! We found a turtle nest one morning and a pirate's hut another. Mostly we just enjoyed the quite sounds of the waves hitting the sand.
Lech and I toured the Don Lucas tobacco manufacturing plant one afternoon. The Dominican Republic ships over 30 million cigars to the US every year. Lech bought 30 of those!
Our own little Brussels Boy | Found it!
Cale had a great time hanging with adults that week. There was never a lull in entertainment with him around!
Not sure we could have been any happier!
As vacations go, this one was fun AND relaxing at the same time! Something new for us!
Our favorite restaurant was Japanese food at the Tokio. We sat at a habachi grill and had all of our food cooked in front of us.
The Paris restaurant was the second best. Food and service and wine was great!
Who stole my camera and took random shots of this person!
Looks like I'm having waaat too much fun!
 The ocean is my bathtub!
Tanner really wanted to drink coconut milk. Did he like it once he got it?...not so much.
On the way to our Saona Island tour we drove through Salvaleon de Higuey and saw the Shrine of Our lady of Altagracia, a huge Basilica housing some of the bones of Christopher Columbus.
The James Bond speed boat return from the Isla Saona was an adrinalin rush for the adults and a sleeping pill for Cale!
 Fun in the sun
 Yet another day in paradise!
Cale had a great time in the themed kid's pool.
Tanner volunteered to get burried in the sand - I'm sure he was digging sand out of his ears for weeks!
Claire built quite the impressive sand castle... | ...with a little help from Cale
One of our many walks on the beaches of paradise. | Did you know palm trees grew from coconuts? Who'd have thunk
 shower time!
Tanner and Tyler went deep sea fishing and he caught this ugly mahi mahi. He didn't bring it home to cook for dinner - thank goodness!
Hamming it up in the 'ole DR
Ewww! That's just gross | Nice socks for the beach! | Zzzzzz | No, and you can't make me! | Is that a zit? | No midgets? | No midgets, no single people. Only bats and couples.
We're digging a hole to China | Yo yo yo! | Bombs away! | Tanner, did you clip your toenails?
Who says beaches are for lounging and relaxing?
Life's a beach. And then...well you find another beach.
and took pictures with star fish | On the way to the Isla Saona we stopped at the blue whole where Blue Lagoon was filmed... | that had obviously been planted there by the photographers! $50 bucks please!
All things grow better with love, and salt water...
Hey Cale, let me carry one of those towels so it looks like I'm actually doing something...
Hope you brought your sunscreen because the catamaran ride over to Saona was hot, hot hot! | The kids basked in the sun while Lech covered every possible inch of his skin!
Nothing like sitting on the front of a catamaran soaking up the sun and relaxin' in paradise!
Note to self: don't expect top shelf alcohol on anything that's titled "all you can drink".
Mr. Matuszewski maintaining his reputation for elegance.
Where's the butler, I need my scotch refilled..
The Morgan family at their finest!
 Cale's up-dos
Left over pictures that I didn't want to throw away!
 On our way home!
