BC: That was SO fun!
FC: Exploration of North America | Melinda Smith
2: Why Explore? | There were various reasons for exploration. Three of the major ones are as follows: | God | The Europeans wanted to spread their religion to the rest of the world. | Glory | You were highly thought of if you 'discovered' land for your country. | Gold | Obviously, gold was key. Many countries needed gold for coins.
4: Spanish Exploration | The Spanish had a reason for exploring, all right. They wanted to control the seas by finding new trade routes. Also, they wanted to spread their Catholic religion to the 'New Land'.
5: Hernando de Soto | Juan Ponce de Leon | He searched for gold in Florida and Southern Georgia. His trip was a failure. | This man went to Florida searching for the Fountain of Youth. He didn't find it for one reason; THERE IS NO FOUNTAIN OF YOUTH!
6: French Exploration | French explorers wanted a new trade route to the Pacific Ocean and the resources that the Americas had to offer.
7: Sieur de la Salle | This man found the Mississippi River and claimed it for France.
8: British Exploration | English explorers, known as 'pirates', searched for new resources for clothing, and gold for coins, since coins were growing scarce.
9: Sir Humphrey Gilbert | Sir Walter Raleigh | Half Brotherness! | Humfrey claimed the first land in North America for Brittan. | Helped colonize Virginia and searched for the City of Gold.
