FC: Ally the Alligator and Lizzy the Lizard

It was a nice, sunny day. A perfect day for a picnic. Ally the Alligator called her friend, Lizzy the Lizard and they decided to meet up at the park.

When they got to the park, they set up their food and towel and started to eat.

Lizzy went to lay down, but she felt something hard. She soon exploded from the pain the mystery object caused her.

It was a magnifying glass. Lizzy picked it up. But she soon figured out it was no ordinary magnifying glass. She held it up to Ally and soon discovered its amazing powers. She turned the dial on the side and a bright light flashed.

Suddenly, all Lizzy could see was Ally's Integumentary System.

She turned the dial again and saw her scales.

Lizzy realized what the magnifying glass was capable of. It was zooming in by powers of 10 and organization. So, every time Lizzy zoomed in she saw a smaller portion of Ally. She turned the dial again and said, "I wonder what could be smaller than Ally's skin?" She was answered when she saw this, the skin tissue.

Lizzy was mystified. The skin tissue was so small. But she wanted to see more. She twisted and entered a tiny world filled with Keratinocytes, or skin cells.

Once again Lizzy twisted the dial making it zoom even more into Ally. That allowed her to see cadherins, which are the molecules in the cells.

Lizzy was curious. "What could be smaller than a molecule?" She turned the dial to find out. She was astonished by the calcium atoms inside the molecules.

Lizzy lost her balance in amazement. She dropped the magnifying glass on Ally and Ally started crying like a baby. She took out her pacifier and gave it to Ally. She accidentally turned the dial again. This time it was on the pacifier.

Lizzy zoomed into the rubber and found nylon on the pacifier. She wondered why there weren't any cells. Ally answered, "Non-living things don't have cells. They're both made up of atoms, but living things have more complicated systems."

She turned the dial again and found carbon, an atom in the nylon.

It started to rain so the friends went home. But they never forgot about the magical magnifying glass and what it taught them.
