1: history | 1866 was the first year the the down syndrome effects were noticed. John Langsdon Down was the first person to publish the disease. At first, it was named after the people from Mongolia because of the similar facial features, but was changed to Down Syndrome.

2: Down Syndrome is caused by chromosomal abnormality. Instead of having 46 chromosomes, the person has 47. After many cases, they have found that Down Syndrome is not hereditary. It is no one's fault. It is a recessive gene. It is also sex-linked. | Causes

4: When 800 babies are born, one of them will have Down Syndrome.

5: Who is affected by the disorder? | It doesn't effect a certain population, race\culture, age group, gender, gene pools, or geography. It could happen to anybody.

6: Down Syndrome has many symptoms | * reduced muscle tone * a flat facial profile, flat nasal bridge, small nose * eyes that slant upwards and outwards * a small mouth which makes the tongue seem slightly large * a big space between first and second toe * broad hands with small fingers and little finger that curves inwards

8: Are there any treatments, cures, medication, or therapies?

9: While there are many treatments for Down syndrome, Down syndrome is not a condition that can be cured. However, there are treatments and therapies for the physical, medical and cognitive problems associated with Down syndrome. The goal of medical treatments in Down syndrome are to manage the medical conditions associated with Down syndrome, while early intervention and therapies help many people with Down syndrome live long productive lives.

11: The most frequent causes of death are respiratory infections and congenital heart disease, which are caused by Down Syndrome. It can be treated with medication and therapy. The life of the person will be changed. They are at the risk of being made fun of by other people because of their looks and mental stability. They also have to learn differently.

12: With current research, scientist say that they are very close to a cure. Many support groups include, the National association o.f Down Syndrome, the Down Syndrome association of Hampton Roads, and the Band of Angles. Many schools and organizations hold fundraisers for charities for Down Syndrome. Each support group has its own web site. There are also many websites with information about the disorder.
