FC: A Weekend in Maryland

1: September 20-24, 2012 Things we want to remember... Kilene's luggage was too heavy and too big for carry on. Napped in MD, overslept by 45 min, our Capitol Tour was at 1:30, we arrived at 1:28, we were first in line, and we thought we would be late. Eric reminded the U.S. Capitol Tour Guide about the Whisper Spot, he didn't like that too much. Gary Miller's office had Richard Nixon memorabilia in it. We went inside of a committee office because the sign next to the door read, "In Session" We were hoping to watch but someone just forgot to turn the sign over. We ended up getting a private tour of the office. The receptionist at Barbara Boxer's office gave a smirk because the Senate was able to offer both House and Senate gallery passes unlike the House of Representatives. Kilene fell asleep in the Senate Gallery while listening to Charles Grassley, not Rand Paul. Al Franken was the Presiding Officer. Looked at the Lincoln Memorial from the left and right side and noticed the differences in Lincoln's demeanor. We ate dinner with Eric's parents, shared food with each other, and had Sangrias. Kilene fell asleep in the car while driving through Embassy Row with Eric and his parents. Kilene ate Matzo Ball Soup for the first time. Eric's dad prefers soft Matzo balls, not hard (good cooking tip). We drove by all of Eric's schools, from nursery school to high school. We hiked Great Falls, turned around at the emergency exit post, and then met the man who installed the post. We were scared we'd fall into the Potomac River with an old man when we leaned against a loose rail on the bridge. An older man asked Eric, "How did you end up with a super model" and then he took a picture of us at the Potomac River. We took "Prom Pictures" in Eric's living room before leaving for Ranjit's wedding reception. Eric's mom insisted we bring an umbrella to the wedding reception. It was raining and we used it to walk to the car. On the way to the wedding reception, when it starts pouring rain, Jandro said, "You wanna get out?" The wedding reception was at an Indian Restaurant. Went drinking with Puff and Eunice on a roof top bar and then had beers at a hipster bar. Watched corky/cooking shows all night at Puff's house. We stayed awake until 5:00 am at Puff's house and at Eric's house. Andrew came by Eric's house by surprise. We went to a BBQ at Jandro's house with Eric's friends, their spouses and their children. We ate crab with Old Bay, very dirty and delicious. Kilene learned how to crack open a crab. Met Bubby, she offered us ice cream, and asked, "Are my teeth yellow...Tell me about yourself" She is a very strong willed woman. Eric's dad's friends at work wrote a poem about Eric's mom's yummy holiday cookies (very cool). Eric's dad gave us a history lesson on an upscale Italian market he shops at that originated in Greenwich Village, NY. Stayed awake to watch "Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind" and then spent a hour analyzing it. Eric's mom bragged about how smart Eric is in math, logic, literature, and that he read at a 3rd grade level in Kindergarten. Raced to Dulles Airport and barely made it on time. Went back to Eric's house in Hermosa, CA Thank you Eric
