One of the famous works from Poe is "The Raven". It was published in 1845.

I chose Edgar Allan Poe because his poetry is fantastic. His poems deal with murder, mystery, and love. All three of those topics interest me greatly.

Annabel Lee published 1849 It was many and many a year ago, In a kingdom by the sea, That a maiden there lived whom you may know By the name of ANNABEL LEE;-- And this maiden she lived with no other thought Than to love and be loved by me. She was a child and I was a child, In this kingdom by the sea, But we loved with a love that was more than love-- I and my Annabel Lee-- With a love that the winged seraphs of heaven Coveted her and me.

And this was the reason that, long ago, In this kingdom by the sea, A wind blew out of a cloud by night Chilling my Annabel Lee; So that her high-born kinsman came And bore her away from me, To shut her up in a sepulchre In this kingdom by the sea. The angels, not half so happy in Heaven, Went envying her and me:-- Yes! that was the reason (as all men know, In this kingdom by the sea) That the wind came out of a cloud, chilling And killing my Annabel Lee.

But our love it was stronger by far than the love Of those who were older than we-- Of many far wiser than we- And neither the angels in Heaven above, Nor the demons down under the sea, Can ever dissever my soul from the soul Of the beautiful Annabel Lee:-- For the moon never beams without bringing me dreams Of the beautiful Annabel Lee; And the stars never rise but I see the bright eyes Of the beautiful Annabel Lee; And so, all the night-tide, I lie down by the side Of my darling, my darling, my life and my bride, In her sepulchre there by the sea-- In her tomb by the side of the sea.

My all time favorite poem by Edgar Allan Poe is “Annabel Lee”. I love this poem because it shows that he dearly loved this woman and that he would go to the end of the earth to be with her no matter the condition she was in.

Poe’s genre for writing was mainly in the Horror and Science Fiction. The short story, “The Tell-Tale Heart”, is a Horror. The only reason I say this is because it is talking about killing someone and when he dissembles the body the only thing he can hear was the heart of the lady in the house below the boards.

Poe’s works illustrate technical and abstract beauty. His works were nocturnal themes. It is said that there was a demonic undertone behind everything that he wrote. The reason for such a demonic undertone was because of his childhood. It is believed that every time he had written a poem that he would always reminiscences to his past.

The writing style for my author is seemed to be dark. Never once in any of his poetry short stories, essays, or plays did it have anything about being happy or bringing joy to someone. The few pieces that I have read seemed to have nothing but murder, broken hearts, and unfortunate events.

My author, Edgar Allan Poe, is unique. He is unique because he can write his poetry or short stories and put his past into it. He has a very demonic since of writing and it is very unusual. Which is why I believe that Poe is unique, I believe that authors from now, want to try and copy Poe by creating dark poetry or short stories. But Poe did not have to try to have a dark past like the ones from the present do. He had a dark past and that is what makes him unique in his work.

One of the works that Poe has written is “Annabel Lee”. I also like “The Tell-Tale Heart”. If I would have not read anything by Poe, and just by looking at the first sentence of any of his works, I would have most likely read “A Dream”.

Poe wasn’t shooting for a type of audience. He was writing to write. Poe wrote his feelings in every passage that he did proceed to write. For example, in the poem “Annabel Lee” Poe could have shot for people who liked to read love and romance but at the same time he could have shot for people who went for death and creepy. He was not aiming for one type of audience, Poe was writing to express feelings.
