S: Road to Rome: June 2009

FC: My Road To Rome | "Summer of 2009!" | England France Switzerland Germany Italy | June 13 to June 27 2009

1: On our way to Heathrow Airport, London June 13-14 | Christie reading Twilight :)

2: London, England | June 14, 2009

3: We arrived, took the train to Russell Square and walked to the Royal National Hotel. Then we left our bags, and started walking around. We had some fish n' chips and then went sight-seeing, while carefully looking RIGHT.

4: Went to Trafalgar Square and then found some red telephone booths.

5: Big Ben & Westminster Abbey

6: Going to the London Eye to get panoramic views of the city.

7: London 360

8: After a long search and lots of funny looks, we walked Abbey Road, just like the Beatles.

9: Mind the Gap! | Buying our 7 Pound all-day Tube pass was definitely a good choice. We hopped on and off to see all the sights.

10: The Ferry ride from the White Cliffs of Dover to the Port of Calais in France. Me scared and pale (Left), Stephen and his locking mechanism (Right), and Nico and Christie playing cards.

11: Paris, France | June 15-16, 2009

12: The Louvre

14: Around the Arc de Triomphe is the largest roundabout in the world! Then there's the Champs des Elysees... | The Louis Vuitton store, and the cafe where Jackie Kennedy met Aristotle Onassis.

15: The Arc de Triomphe, where 12 major streets in Paris converge.

16: Mimicking art is fun. "No speedos" and "No thinking cigarettes" The stairs to the top of the Arc de Triomphe. A mini replica of the Arc de Triomphe.

17: The panoramic views of Paris from the top of the Arc de Triomphe. So much symmetry!

18: Le Tour Eiffel! | Taking all of our photos with the symbol of the city (and eating crepes).

20: Walking around... We found a liter of water for .20 euro cents at the Supermarche.! The Cafes, the Fromageries, and the Patisseries on Rue Cler. The Hotel des Invalides Pont Alexander, a famous kissing bridge.

21: Holy Hand Grenade. The GrandPalais. The Place de la Concorde. Former spot of the Guillotine, where a fountain now stands.

23: NOTRE | DAME

24: Inside the Notre Dame, A candle for Grandma, & Outside of the Notre Dame.

25: After a dinner in the Latin Quarter, we made the trip to the top of the Eiffel Tower.

26: Lucerne, Switzerland | June 17-18, 2009

27: Service Stops | Walking around the old town area of Lucerne.

29: Lake Cruise

30: Lion Monument We found California! Swiss Ice Cream Night Out on the town.

31: We took an old style train to an aerial gondola to go all the way up to the top of Mt. Stanserhorn. ...I was very scared and nervous... but I just had to do it. | People there will hike or run up the mountain on the trails. Every year there is a competition to run up the mountain and the current record is 1 hour, 2 minutes, and 5 seconds!

33: Yay I did it! The views were spectacular! BEAUTIFUL.

34: Liechtenstein for Lunch | We ate delicious kebabs and durums. | June 18, 2009

35: Munich, Germany | June 18, 2009

36: We arrived in Munchen, Desutschland and walked around town. We saw the Glockenspiel clock and enjoyed some delicious pretzels. | Yummmy!!!! Christie's cream cheese and chives pretzel was the best!

37: This is the Odeonplatz where Hitler recited many of his famous speeches. On our way there we saw the Puma store, which originates from Germany. Of course Stephen was wearing his Puma shirt. I couldn't wear my Puma shoes because my feet were so swollen! Christie called them "Frankenfeet".

38: Then, we went to the famous Hofbrauhaus beer hall to enjoy a classic German meal. We ordered a stein of beer, Stephen had bratwurst, Christie and I had a type of sausage with potatoes, and Nico had a turkey dish. As we ate there was an Oompah band with traditional dancers. Oddly enough, everyone else ate at a different part of the beer hall.

39: Innsbruck, Austria for Lunch We visited a family owned Schnapps store and had several samples, ate delicious streusel, bought earrings at Swarovski (Stephen bought mine and I bought Christie's), and then sang Happy Birthday to Christie in the middle of the town square.

40: My first gelato! | Happy 23rd Birthday, Christie! | First Italian stop at Lake Garda. | Roomies | Friends | Birthday Girl | DANCE! | June 19, 2009 | Going to an Aussie bar to celebrate. EPIC NIGHT.

41: Venice, Italy | June 20, 2009

42: After a ferry ride to the isands of Venezia, we watched a glass blowing demonstration. Pictured is also the Piazza de San Marco, where St. Mark's Basilica is.

43: Best Pizza Ever. | Christie ate all her pizza. Well we all did, but she's the only one with proof. | Eating delicious Pizza Genovese, the best pizza ever. Also we shared some Margherita pizza as well as one with yummy prosciutto on it.

45: Ponte di Rialto The Rialto Bridge | Beautiful views and home to several vendors since it is the highest point around the little islands.

46: We decided to ditch our maps and get lost in this beautiful city. Here are some of the beautiful sights and canals that we came across.

48: Pisa, Italy | June 21, 2009

49: The Leaning Tower of Pisa in the Field of Miracles

50: June 21-22, 2009 | Florence, Italy

51: The Medici residence, visiting the Uffizi Gallery, the famous David statue, and touching the golden snout.

52: Biiig drinks | After a dinner in Florence we headed to a karaoke bar called Red Garter to sing our hearts out. | At dinner... Hi Cat & Chris! | Outside... | "That's amore!" | "Got my first real 6 string..." | "Summer of '69!" | Good Times. | The group singing our trip theme song.

53: Perseus and Medusa, Jumping (and getting mad at Stephen for not taking the picture right)... | yummy gelato, and our Firenze tour guide.

54: The Piazza della Republica, Ponte Vecchio, the private residence of Armani, and some statues of the ninja turtles :).

55: The Duomo, the symbol of the city amd the Firenze Campanile. The marble covering on the outside of the Duomo is all naturally colored.

56: Our group photo with the city of Florence as our backdrop. On our way to our nice dinner at La Certoza.

57: At our dinner... Then we had a blast at the Space Electronica Discotheque!

58: Rome, Italy | June 23-26, 2009

59: From the Piazza de Popolo to the Spanish Steps

60: The Trevi Fountain, throwing our coins in hopes to return.

61: PANTHEON

62: The Piazza Navona, where we spent a lot of our time. | Blue Ice was the BEST gelato!

63: The Roman Forum, Caesar's grave, and Arc de Tito.!

65: The AMAZING COLOSSEO! From the outside (left page), and the impressive inside. It could hold up to 65,000 people. The 80 entrances and exits were so well designed, it only took 30 minutes to fill it up or empty it.

66: Taking our pictures with the colossal Colosseum.

67: MUSEI VATICANI

68: Fianlly at the Vatican and St. Peter's Basilica! It was HUGE! !

70: Enjoying our last nights with our new friends. A little farewell get together, put on by Dave and Howie. | Cheap wine and cherry gummys! :)

71: Saying our goodbyes... :( Thanks for the memories!

72: We went back to the Vatican to go inside... | It was breath- taking.

73: The coolest windows ever, a few monks in the Vatican, the Swiss guards in their cool uniforms, and mailing our souvenir postcards.

74: Scala Sancta, it is said that Jesus walked these steps the day he died. People must kneel to go up it. | Basilica San Giovanni in Laterno (the original Vatican).

75: Our last night in Roma... Eating at the fanciest McDonalds ever, aka Macas by the Aussies, the Ferrari store, Christie awkwardly getting her card out of her money belt at the train station, and eating a pasta dinner at our hostel, Casa Olmata.

76: Finding our names (and more) around Europe. Stephen (London), Christie (Paris), Pam/Mom (Leichtenstein), Angelo (Munich and Rome), Rienzi - my cousin (Rome), Patrizia - ME! (Rome).

77: Saving my money in college was SO worth it! | Definitely, "the best days of my life"... so far.
