FC: Flight of the Hawk: The life of Coleman Hawhins

1: As a young boy Hawkins, also known as the Bean, began plaing cello at age 5 and piano at age 7. He learned how to play the tenor saxophone at age nine.

2: Then at age twenty he became the big cheese in the Fletcher Henderson band. He knows how to neck the music and make it sound beautiful. He was also called the creater of the Jazz ballad.

3: five years after joining the Flecther Henderson band, he moved to Europe playing with Jack Hylton's orchestra. Then in 1939 he returned to the U.S.

4: Lester Young an upcoming tenor player, emerged with a totally new style on the tenor. The Bean came back and showed his worth in jam sessions against Young.

5: Coleman Hawkins is the Godfather of jazz. He introduced the world to a new style of music on the tenor. He has also played with many younger players in his time before he died in 1965. Those artist include charlie Parker, Duke Ellington, Max Roach, and Johnm Coltrane.
