16: Reflections | I had such an incredible time traveling to Canada with this amazing group of people. Although I think that we can collectively agree that the conference was a bit of a disappointment, the trip itself was absolutely not. Perhaps I didn't learn radical new ideas about feminism from the panels that I attended, but I definitely learned more than I could ever have imagined from the people that I traveled with. I admit that at first I was hesitant about taking an 11-day trip with (mostly) strangers; I tend to be somewhat of a solitary person. By the third or fourth day of the trip all of my worries had evaporated. I was not only confident that I could handle so many people for so long, I was excited to have so much time to spend with my new friends. All of the conference's shortcomings combined can't put a damper on how valuable this experience was to me. I feel like I've gained more than great memories and

17: personal relationships; I have a renewed faith in my own local feminist community and strong motivation to create spaces where people with similar ideas can come together in a way that isn't quite as academic or exclusionary as the conference. Here in Richmond we can create the experience we were hoping to have at the conference in Canada. Maybe we're just too radical for the Women's Worlds brand of feminism! Despite complaints about the conference, I want to emphasize what an incredible experience this study abroad program was to me. I treasure every conversation that I had and every new friendship that was formed. I found what I was looking for at the conference in every single person on the trip. Thank you all for making this trip so wonderful for me. I love you all! | jara
