1: Geronimo was famous for being an apache leader who was one of the last to give up. His real name was Goyathlay, meaning "one who yawns." brave and wise, he became a medicine man of the Chiricahua apache.
2: the Chiricahua crossed the border to trade goods with the Mexicans. on a expedition Geronimo's mother, wife, and children were killed. Geronimo swore vengeance. for several years he brought brutal raids against his enemies.
3: Americans were terrorizing Indians. Geronimo got mad and he sent furious raids on the American settlers. He became a wanted man.
4: general George crook captured Geronimo but later Geronimo managed to escaped, and general crook was replaced by general nelson miles.
5: By 1886,after years of fighting Geronimo surrendered to general miles. Geronimo and his followers were sent to join other Apache in Florida.
6: In 1894 the Apache were sened to a reservation at Fort Sill, Oklahoma. In Oklahoma Geronimo devoted himself to farming and seeking better education for Indian children. later in life he adopted Christianity.
7: Geronimo died at fort sill on February 17 , 1909. his name is known as a battle cry used by paratroopers as they jump from their planes.
